Paintings of various periods.

Have you done any hand written pen-pal letters before?

Yes, a few.

What's the next gift you'll need to buy?

Either my dad's or nephews birthday present. I like buying gifts for people but not when I feel obligated to - birthdays, Christmas, valentines, mothers/fathers day. Then I find it very hard and have actually opted out of those last three.

Do you find it easy to buy gifts for people?

Do you find it easy to purchase all the necessary goods you need on a weekly/monthly basis for a reasonable price?

Yes, for the most part. I receive SSI and EBT on a monthly basis.

Same question.

No, because I'm a homeowner in a place with the highest cost of living on the continent, and I'm supporting others as well as my pets on a disability income. Nothing to see here, so move along.

If you could bring back anyone from WP's history who would you choose?

I will go Iceland because Ireland is a little too close to home. Iceland has volcanoes and stuff, plus the culture there seems interesting from afar.

What do you think about milk? Do you consume milk? What type? How?

I don't normally drink milk on its own but I use it in coffee and baking. I have a small espresso machine and like foamed milk in my coffee. I haven't found any plant-based mylks that I enjoy in coffee- oat milk is the least bad, but I think it makes the coffee taste a bit like porridge.

What do you remember about your very first day of school?

I walked to school with my mother. We had an argument about my teacher's name.
I was convinced it was "Mrs Duncan".
Every time I said Duncan, I pictured a steel bucket dunking into a well of water.
It turned out Mrs Duncan was my brother's teacher's name but we didn't know that yet.

At school we had "activity time" to play with the toys.
I played with a blue plastic train set because my brother had the same one.
My teacher yelled at me to stop and picked me up from the ground by my ponytail.
When I was in the air she spanked me.
The whole class laughed at me (it seemed like it anyway - maybe some were scared)

The teachers said I wasn't allowed to play with the train because it was a boys' toy.
I should have known because it was blue.
I was only allowed to play with the girls in the "Home Center" which was a play house.
I went to the Home Center crying because I was scared of the girls.
I didn't know how to play house.
I sat on the floor and refused to participate.

I didn't tell my parents about being lifted by my ponytail or spanked.
I thought my parents might make me quit school and I'd never learn to read.

same q

I had a total of 13 first days at school. It only strikes me as weird now that I can only remember anything about one of them. I normally remember a lot. But these were high anxiety times so I was probably in my head.

The one I can remember was a secondary school, maybe the third secondary school I attended.

I can remember being shown to a table where some kids were and some other kids on another table saying something like 'Talk about getting in with the wrong crowd' and I remember thinking 'oh great, this crap again'.

Do you ever hand write letters?

I have not written a full letter by hand for many years, although I wrote them regularly back in the 1970s and '80s. I have more recently written notes inside greeting cards or on postcards, but not for a few years now. It used to be exciting to receive letters, especially from penfriends overseas, who wrote on thin airmail paper and stuck interesting foreign stamps onto the envelopes. I collected the stamps, too. Writing letters to relatives was a tedious task, though.

Another school story. One school I went to wouldn't allow a packed lunch. You had to eat what they served you. And they made you eat it.

Two of their meals made me physically sick, both involved baked beans which I hate. One was 'cheese pie' which was like a mashed potato baked with cheese. The other was something they called 'pizza' but was like a thick bread tipped with tomato and cheese. In both cases the burnt cheese taste with bean sauce just made me nauseous and I often threw it up after. Lots of the other kids loved these meals but for me eating them was torture. But you weren't allowed to leave until you had a clean plate. Psychos.

I didn't know I actually liked pizza until I was about 18 and I tried a real one. Still hate baked beans though.

What's the most interesting thing you can see from where you are right now?
