Oh sh*t am I terrible with slang. My friends use it when talking to me, and I am lost for words. When on forums, I have to check www.urbandictionary.com.

It sucks.

As nice as it would be to be able to use slang, I've just accepted that I can't, except in the rare instances where it happens to feel natural.

I'm afraid that one scene between Kirk and Spock in Star Trek IV may hold a specific message for us all...

Well, I've never seen Star Trek, so the the only Kirk I know is the Mr. Hammett from Metallica.

:P

I'm not that great with slang, either.

I was watching a tv show earlier today when someone was caught kissing their boyfriend by their mother. The daughter when caught, said..."Oh snap".
Hours later, i'm still trying to think why someone would say "snap" in that situation :?

In conversations, i'm no better...infact, probably worse. My 42 year old mother uses more slang than I [which I use nil anyway].

I'm really slow to accept slang and new vocabulary. Eventually it will ease it's way into my repertroire. My husband is quicker, but he works with younger people who are into that thing.

That's what's weird, slang is associated with the young but I've never been comfortable with new words. I like established definitions and interpretations. I love dictionaries (you know, the hardcover ones) :D

"Oh snap".
I believe that is the same as oh sh**. I use some, but unfortunately some of it is from the nineties. If I don't catch something, I seem to end up hearing it more often (obviously just more aware) and eventually deduce what the meaning is.

What I don't get is snarf. *shrugs*

Are you being sarcastic by using slang to define slang?

I use a lot of slang just people that's the way people around here talk, and I've "picked it up" :)

I'll admit, though, that I don't pick up on new slang at all. I do take things way too literally and so it's hard to figure out what it means. Urbandictionary and wikipedia both help a lot here :)

I'm bad with slang - I mean, I know what majority of expressions means because I don't live on a deserted island; I read Internet forums and I listen people talking to each other but I rather never use slang expressions because it would sound foolish in my mouth. I'm famous for a sophisticated lady's vocabulary.

Not sure if this is classed as slang or not,but does anyone know what it means- "s**t and sugar"?
mum has said that one for years and it sounds disgusting, who would mix s**t with sugar?
