Well; I have NVLD (and possibly AS), so my perspective is a little bit different given that there's not a particularly good chance that they'll be able to reverse physical brain damage.

I have a high level of verbal ability; I write well and have a vocabulary that many people with PhD's would love to have. I also think about problems in a different fashion from my NT peers which means that I often see solutions that they would never consider.

I couldn't imagine wanting to go through life the way NT people do; I mean maybe it would be nice to subconsciously pick up on social cues and rules, but I mimick NT behavior well enough and have actually been told by colleagues that they appreciate my willingness to be blunt and direct when others hint at difficult issues.
