I am applying to Nursing schools hoping to get into one this year. I know this is a difficult field for an Aspie but I decided a long time ago that Asp. wasn't going to stop me from doing anything I wanted to do. I will just have to work harder than most people. I am working as an EMT right now and doing just fine, especially with unconscious patients!! (jk) I was just wondering if there were any other Aspie nurses or anyone with a similar job (Doctor, Paramedic, etc.) that would share their experiences/hardships with me.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I was an EMT, and good at it. One advantage some aspies have is the ability to stay calm and logical in high stress situations NT's usually panic in. I also worked in a ER. I was comfortable when helping take care of a patient, not so go at interacting on personal level though. Now I'm a massage therapist. Don't let AS stop you. if its something you want and your willing to work hard and make the adjustments you need, you'll do fine. :D

i'm a medical student. i'm not as good at communication skills as the other students (mainly because i hate eye contact) but in everything else i am as good if not better than most people on the course. sorry if that sounded a bit cocky!
