Yeah, I'm another one of those aspies.

When I was 3 years old, doctors said I was severely ret*d and that I could not be expected to learn anything.

18 years later I'm in college studying biology and interested in doing research to treat genetic disorders.

Welcome.

And if one of those genetic disorders you want to treat is Autism, look around here and try to consider the positive aspects. There are probably parts of you that come from AS that you take for granted.
My issue with genetic research is that I fear it may ultimately encourage selective abortion, which is essentially what happened to Down's Syndrome.

The school told my mom I was ret*d for four grades. Then they found out I was gifted. I have a BS in medical technology. Good for you! and congratulations!

Thanks to everyone who replied.

Oh and no, I am NOT trying to "cure autism". I can't justify prioritizing autism over things that are truly devastating such as sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, tay-sachs disease, and, well, the list can go on for a LONG time.

Oh and I am definately an atheist. I see no reason to believe in a god of any sorts from looking at evidence and quite frankly I don't want to believe in a being that threatens people with hellfire.

Well you'll find plenty of 'fellow travellers' here HA (may I call you that?), especially in the religion forum.

Hi HolyAtheist

welcome to WP.

When you finish at college and are treating genetic disorders...the doctors who thought you were ret*d will surely [if they are still alive haha] have to think twice about labelling someone ret*d. :D
