I'm not disputing their preferences - I'm saying that actively learning about cars or candidates can better match a person's values to a choice. People that wander into a car dealership without a knowledge related to features, prices and financing will get skinned. Same thing in an election.

When you buy a car or bread, you can personally make an individual decision for yourself. Needless to say, this is not the case in politics. You as an individual have exactly zero influence over the political decision-making process, so from a cost-benefits perspective you are behaving irrationally when you vote- taking on high costs, receiving exactly zero benefit.
