Shaklee's Stress Relief Complex for Anxiety?
Swanson carries 5-HTP
http://www.swansonvitamins.com/webapp/w ... 61&R=14400
It carries the specific warning: "Do not take this product if you are taking a prescription anti-depressant." That would be me, so I shall stay away.
Can you point to some specific articles on the Stress Relief Complex?
I didn't happen to see it under the Shaklee Science page.
(Swanson ships via regular mail)

YEAH, as I said, it helps INCREASE serotonin! THAT is it's secret! MANY anti depressants are SSRIs, etc... They DECREASE the ability to breakdown serotonin. If you get too much serotonin, the symptoms can be HORRIBLE!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotonin_syndrome
So it is nothing wrong with 5htp, but technically it is a problem with the concept the antidepressants use. You see, the Serotonin reuptake is almost like the little hole on top of a tub. It has it problems, and you may not like it, but, if you plug it up, there can be a horrible overflow and one big MESS!
If you type in Stress Relief in the search box, you will see the product and some articles there....on my Shaklee site. Going to the specific product page of SRC there are some PDF files there.
Also, Shaklee Science, again search box, will show you some of the testing done on all products.
You can also Google "Shaklee stress relief" "testing" and variations and you will find quite a bit there also.
A good site for product info is http://www.globalsuccessteam.net and click to enter site.
I looked to see what else Swanson has for anxiety.
The Naturalcare Anxiety Relief:
http://www.swansonvitamins.com/webapp/w ... opBox=null
looks stupid.
It contains: St. Ignatius Bean, Sea Salt, Kava, Silver Nitrate, Yellow Jasmine, Potassium Carbonate, Gold, Aconite and Henbane.

I didn't find anything. Can you post some links to some specific research on Shaklee's Stress Relief?
Here are some Shaklee press releases....thought it was interesting.

It will take me a bit to get the actual research for the SRC. I have to email Shaklee for it. I will certainly post it when I get it.
In the meantime, you will find a lot of information on my site about Shaklee and our products. Take a minute to browse the site.

Okay, thank you. I would like to have something to show my psychiatrist. So that I will be able to say something more than just "a Shaklee saleslady recommended this on WrongPlanet."
All chemicals you take can be problematic (look up caffeine or salt!), I do not believe 5-htp is as generally as risky as suggested. And it does some clinical trials backing it up.
I am under the belief that many anti- depressants raise serotonin levels not decrease them! Hence, if you are on ssri's or other anti-depressants medical advice is required before you try any alternative anti-depressant or anti anxiety treatment.

LOL.....yep, I am the "Shaklee sales lady."
Your dr. should know about Shaklee, most of them do. Go to the product page on my site and print the PDF label that is there, and also the information sheet.
We also have a Physiscians site for dr's only, http://physicians.shaklee.com/
I'll post the research when I get it.
Okay, within Shaklee's website for physicians, I found this on Ashwaganda:
http://content.nhiondemand.com/shp/mono ... erb&mtyp=1
Apparently the recommended dose is 450 mg, 2-3 times per day (versus the 100 mg in Shaklee's Stress Relief Complex).
Here is how it interacts with anti-anxiety medications:
These drugs include alprazolam, diazepam, lorazepam, clorazepate dipotassium, chlordiazepoxide, oxazepam, buspirone, doxepin, hydroxyzine, meprobamate .
Important! If you are using any of these medications or are unsure about which medications you are using, check with your pharmacist or other healthcare professional before using any dietary supplements.
My clonazepam, a benzodiazepine, isn't listed.
On the plus side: "Ashwagandha was reported to increase the sexual performance in 71 percent of men". WooHoo!!
The sitosterol page did not seem to indicate any usage for anxiety or stress
http://content.nhiondemand.com/shp/mono ... =4#clinApp
I couldn't find anything on L-theanine, but there was L-threonine. I wonder if it is the same thing?
http://content.nhiondemand.com/shp/mono ... =4#clinApp
Then L-Tyrosine, of which the Shaklee product contains 100 mg, is described here:
http://content.nhiondemand.com/shp/mono ... nut&mtyp=4
It says: "Dairy products, meats, fish, wheat, oats, and many other foods contain tyrosine." I eat plenty of all of these foods--so it seems to me that it would be silly to take another 100 mg of this in a pill. Plus, the page gives a dosage range of 1-10 g daily, the bottom end of which is 10 times what the Shaklee pill contains.

Ahem....still no research???
Here is what I have so far. I am still waiting on a reply from Shaklee. Not sure this is what you are looking for, but wanted to post in case it helps. When I hear back from Shaklee, I will post it.

Well with 100 of thousands of Distributors, it does take a bit. The references I posted are what I found while researching it..no links.
I do not have specific research so I do have to get it from Shaklee.
Sorry it's not faster, but I am working on it.
There is a bar graph on the site also that shows a double blind study. Did you see that?
