I used to know (horribly-written) lyrics to "Turkey in the Straw" that sang the states in alphabetical order. The section with the "m" states is kind of a blur to me now...took me a while to remember Missouri. :P

Although I've heard of many of them, I have difficulty recalling them at the moment. Is Thuringia still one? Bavaria? Ach... Mein VerstandIST leer!

Yep, they are both German Länder.

These are the German states (the German names from memory, the English ones from wikipedia): Bremen, Brandenburg, Berlin, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Sachsen (Saxony), Sachen-Anhalt (Saxony-Anhalt), Thüringen (Thuringia), Bayern (Bavaria), Baden-Württemberg, Saarland, Hessen (Hesse), Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia), Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate), Hamburg, Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony)

I remember back in 7th grade we had to memorize all 50 American states w/ their capitals and fill them in on a blank map of the USA (a geography test).
