what does one do to abate it?

I'm stimming and rocking, I normally don't rock.

good news! If you were going through a MAJOR panic attack, you wouldn't be typing online!

try to breathe regularly and deeply,
don't try to do much else
turn of all stimulation around you - electrical stuff
dim the room

breathe deeply and just keep breathing deeply

eventually you will get so bored of breathing deeply, and nothing else, you will get up and do something else. That is when you know you are all right.

If you have roller skates or ankle wieghts put them on. Your brain will go to what your feet are doing. Silly, yes but it worked for me.
