Hello I finally joined

I am a 48 year old man in Northern California. Feb of last year I was perusing the internet and went from a news article that referenced aspergers to a series of other web sites and somewhere during that process I recognized the criteria as applying to me. For about the first 4 days afterward I was in a pretty good mood because my social deficiencies were shared by other people and somehow this was no longer a personal failing. After those 4 days I became very angry which then began going back and forth between anger and depression with the anger predominating. I have been reading posts here since about early march of last year. Last december I got in touch with a Psychiatrist at UCSF and when I am ready I am going to pay out of pocket for a diagnosis. I am one of the 20 million vets whose records were compromised by a careless jerk working for the veterans administration. Because of this I don't feel like trusting my HMO to keep their mouths shut about this and I don't feel like it's any business of other union members or my family either. Anyway this Forum seems to have some interesting members. Sorry for the run on intro this vent has been building for a while.

Hi velodog and welcome to the right" Planet :wink: like you I am 48 and only fopund out I had Aspergers last July.. at first shock, anger, confusion and now I understand I love being who I am.

Pleased to meet you!

I just found out I have AS last year (after 15 years of idly wondering if I might be somewhat autistic). I've felt a lot better since. It's been very helpful to learn how other people deal with all the details of AS, and to stop feeling guilty for being socially awkward.

I'm moving to the SF area in a week, so I'm naturally curious about the AS-related resources there. I hope you find what you're looking for without experiencing any more privacy violations!
