Oops, double post :P

Sometimes I wish that some of the people here would go to therapy. It really helps clear things up when you put the effort in.

Agreed.

But I thought about it and figured I understand those people with bad experiences towards the mental health system too. I got caught up with one horrible psychiatrist who wanted to label me with some personality disorder right away and who didn't take autism seriously!

There should be more opportunities for therapists to specialise in autism, so that more autistic people can get decent help when they need to!

It's like a lot of things. A therapist is a person. And as a person you have access to a wide array of personalities, prejudices, competences, focus etc...

So a perfectly good therapist for a rocky marraige might be the worst possible for a person struggling to come to grips with AS. On the other hand, there will be someone out there that is perfect and is "just what the doctor ordered."

So if a person IS having problems that they can't deal with themselves, then therapy may indeed be the answer. And it may be a tragedy that they are dissuaded from seeking out a therapist that might be their perfect match because of a bad experience (or two or three.)
