I was just thinking about this and don't have a clue!

Because...for an egg to be present, a chicken has to lay it...but for there to be a chicken, it had to come from an egg.

I think this is an impossible question to answer haha.

what do you think?

Most people say "The chicken or the egg" you said "the egg or the chicken." That's interesting.

This question actually never bothered me, because it seems obvious. There was a first chicken. That chicken hatched from an egg. The egg came first.

But where did the egg come from?

It came from a bird that wasn't a chicken.

But if it came from a bird that wasn't a chicken...why would a chicken hatch out of it?

I mean, it's not like i've ever seen a duck come from a chickens egg before, so why would a chicken come from another birds egg?

The chicken came first.
I dropped some corn on the ground near an egg and a chicken. The egg didn't move, but the chicken came. :P

It mutated. Chickens evolved from non-chicken ancestors.

Well it's already been mentioned but:

The egg.

The first Chicken egg was a genetically mutated egg laid by the immediate evolutionary ancestors of chickens.
