I wrote to my MP asking him to sign a parliamentary motion [EDM 861] to support the NAS's campaign for adult services [ www.think-differently.org.uk ]. I wrote to the head of the Community Mental Health Service where I live, asking him what he was doing to improve the lot of Adult Autistics. I wrote to Prof. Simon Wessely to complain about his claim that Aspergers isn't really real. I wrote to 2 Psychiatrists pointing out that there are huge numbers of Adult Autistics in their area who need support...

Guilt trip time... What Did You Do? Zarathustra's first law of activism - For every on-line action there should be an equal and effective off-line reaction...

I don't even write it I just think about it in my head and then run and tell my shrink 8O

That's not true...I write stuff somtimes, but it just sits on my computer for a few months and then I delete it.

Good on you Zarthustra.

This weekend I made my Autism Advocacy video which on put on youtube (see my signature).

My 9 and 7 year old sons helped me. So you could say I was training up other Autism Activists this weekend.

tGoH, well you're half way there... Smelene, well done. This evening I've been putting together a postcard with some basic facts about adults with autism to send to the local social care people...

Well done Zarathustra & Smelena for getting awareness out there into the world about ASDs.

P.S = Smelena, I commented on your youtube video. I think it's great.

Thanks!

Zarathustra, what you're doing is great.

Could you post your letters please?

This way other members could cut and paste and send to their MP's etc

I'll have to get videos of talks I give in the future and post them on Youtube.

Helen

P.S. My boys can't stop watching themselves on the Youtube video .... they love it!

P.P.S. We've shot another one but it's going to take me 1 - 2 weeks to edit it. This one has video footage of us and should be heaps of fun!

if your kids love that go an extra step
get a recording program so they can record they're voices (and if you want an even farther step to put their voices and such on CD's)
I'm doing that to make my personal album "Sphere" :)
I sing and make a bunch of techno-esque things
it's pretty cool :P

I did this too but before Easter.

At Easter because the house was quiet I went over some of my papers on my diagnosis looking at various symptoms and reading some new things I had found on AS and spent lots of time on Wrong Planet :D

An extract of letter to Jonathon Djanology MP..."Within the Cambridgeshire PCT there are approximately 4400 adult autistics, of these around 3000 are unsupported, around 3900 are unemployed, 1450 seriously mentally ill..." More will follow next week

If you're not a part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

There. I did my part to bump this thread back up. :D

Thanks OB, the UK government as a result of the www.think-differently.org.uk campaign, that I'm involved with, is drawing up new guidelines for the provision of services for adults by local government and the health service.

Meanwhile in Australia I am participating in the consultations for Victoria's "Autism State Plan". I attended a seminar last November and also filled out a response to their initial paper on the subject.

I'm struggling to get my own life on track at present (post house move), but I also intend to push for a federal enquiry into the issues of adult Aspies. I've been at that on and off since late 2002, and with the change in government now the chances of getting it off the ground are better than they were.
