These are my long-term obsessions:
Type one: Developmental psychology.
Type two: Religion and spirituality (particularly alternative religions, and the study of consciousness, the most 'spiritual' thing there is).
Type three: Video games (old-school RPGs, especially).
Type four: There isn't really a fourth category, but I guess I could put the pursuit of 'normalcy', which I have only recently given up.
As for short term obssesions, there are subcategories, and then there is my current moment obsession, which is the precise detail of those subcategories on which my attention is fixed unwaveringly.
For those of you who have played the video game 'Chrono Cross', think of the field effect.
Edit: Oh, wait. Earth science was the fourth category. But that was so long ago. . .
Type One: Large amounts of memorization
Mine: timelines and chronologies, lists of rulers, geographical features (mountains, rivers, cities,...) , Stargate SG-1, Dragon Ball
Type Two: Problem solving and Analytical obsessions
Mine: unexplained questions in science, unexplained events in history, unsolved mysteries, puzzles
Type Three: Purely imaginative obsessions
Mine: how to survive in imaginary emergency situations
Type Four: Imposed Obsessions you manufacture to accomplish a purpose
Mine: I can't remember imposing myself an obsession
and here's a new type:
Type Five: Collecting
Mine: maps
There are probably more, especially in Types One and Three, but these are the ones I can remember now.
Hooray we have a Type 5
Mine: Random pieces of junk that have value in my imaginary worlds

Type one: Large amounts of Memorization
Mine: I get obsessed with song lyrics, especialy if they are incredibly difficult to learn, One Week by the Bare Naked Ladies, End of the World as we Know it by REM, Yako's world from Animaniacs, the list goes on. Also a host of sci-fi stuff, but my current obsession is Warcraft Lore (the storyline behind Warcraft games and books.)
Type two: Problem solving Analytical obsessions
Mine: I like to think of plausible methods of faster than light space travel, time travel, anti-gravity (and artificial gravity,) artificial intelegence and a whole host of other scientific quandries. I've also dabbled in computer programing.
Type three: Purely imaginative obsessions
Mine: Currently I'm working on a Sci-fi roll playing game similar in style to World of Warcraft. I also have an animation series that I've wanted to work on for the last several years, called Chaz and Daz about antropormorphic animals (a ferrett and a bear) Living in a modern society (while it may sound like it, this has nothing to do with furries, and I didn't learn about furries until after I created the show.)
Type four: Imposed Obsessions to accomplish a purpose
Mine: I'm not really sure about this one. Right now I'd say maybe obsessing about finding a Job?
And to add Thor's type Five: Collecting
Mine: Anything and everything. There's a type of OCD called "hording" where you have a hard time getting rid of anything, even what most people would consider junk. I keep some of the weirdest things, like polystyrine (that's styrofoam to most people, but it's also a non-foam plastic #6 for anyone who knows anything about plastic recycling) and I also like to keep other things like various papers, that most people would find useless.
There's alot more, especialy in one and three, but I don't want to take up too much space.
Type One: Large amounts of memorization
Mine: I like to memorize the names of the English voice actors of my favorite anime characters.
Off the top of my head:
Alucard - Crispin Freeman
Abel - Troy Baker
Seras - K.T. Gray
Esther - Colleen Clinkenbeard
Integra - Victoria Harwood
Noelle - Christine Auten
Astharoshe - Carrie Savage
Walter - Ralph Lister
William - Jason Douglas
Anderson - Steven Brand
Vaclav - Chuck Huber
Montana Max - Gildart Jackson
Cain - Mike McFarland
Jan - Josh Philips
Doc - Marcelo Tubert
Type Three: Purely imaginative obsessions
Mine: I have a fanfiction series in my mind that revolves around (what else?) the characters of Hellsing and Trinity Blood. I pair them off based on their personality traits or similar roles in their respective storylines, from the obvious similarities to the obscure. Recently, I've begun to focus on creating biological children for said pairings and, although it would be impossible in reality since virtually all of the pairings I conjure up are same-sex, it's still a lot of fun.
Sorry, I've probably said too much... ^-^;
