Hello....it's me again....

I might have both....or I might just be a bit further along on the autistic spectrum than the the average ADDer, but not quite an aspie...i am not sure what a doctor would say. The doctors who gave me my ADD diagnosis did not bring it up...I do not have the money currently to get re-diagnosis

I have all the classic symptoms of ADD (hyperactive and non-hyperactive at different times in my life)...and I have the
stims, social akwardness, lack of eye contact, motor issues, issues with akward gait (i am a toe-walker), odd voice, mild face blindness, and auditory processing difficulties....and obsessions associated with AS...(though my obsessions might manifest in a sorta ADDish way....as I tend to get swarmed with too many ideas swirling around in my head at once...(multi-track mind)

I have been diagnosed with both ADHD and AS - I was told it is VERY common for them to co-exist in the same person.

It is hard to think of them as two seperate things.
It all seems to come from the same place.

Nope (no one has ever brought it up with me, probably because I'm so "slow" in everything I do, and focused on my obsessions).

My inability to focus is due to not caring about anything other than what I want to do, i.e., obsessions; I can focus intently on those.

I have aspergers but not add/adhd. While it took a while to get the aspergers dx, almost everyone was in agreement, I did not have adhd. I am extremely hyperfocused and concentrate very intensely, especially on my special interests.

I can understand how aspergers and adhd can go together, and maybe even how someone with aspergers is more likely to have adhd than the average person, but at the same time I can't help but think some aspects are very mutually exclusive. Attention problems and intense special interests just don't seem to go together at all.

oh gee...TRUST me...they can! 8O :(

(I am thinking back to some really bad, all-consuming obsessions I have had in the past that I am really happy to be rid of)

it's paradoxical that someone can have ad(h)d and have them intently focus on a subject they like such as video games, movies or TV but it is one of those things that is despite the paradox.

With ADHD and Asperger's, I'm the utmost authority on Star Trek.

lots of ADDers are able to hyper-focus on things that truely interest them.

They just have difficulty concentrating on things that don't interest them.

My boyfriend is very ADD-ish...(undiagnosed)...and he can play his video games for hours and hours and hours.....

ADDers can also have obsessions.

What's the reason for this?

In my case, I simply don't care for anything but my obsession, and I cannot absorb anything but that.
