I did a lot of theater in high school. It was amazing because everyone there was so accepting. It was the one thing I looked forward to while I was in school.

Also, acting helped me learn to fake being NT and to act more normally, and really test my social skills. I wouldn't back out. Auditions can be scary, but it is worthwhile. If it is a large musical cast you are likely to get cast at least in the chorus. It is also a good thing to experience because it won't be so scary afterwards, it is the worst you'll have to go through. It's always worth giving a shot. You'll experience the same sort of anticipation when applying for a job in the future, so why not give it a shot now?

I was in a play for Latin club, not sure if that counts.

Frankly I did better remembering and delivering my lines in Latin than in English.

But I really suck as an actress, at least playing NT characters (my body won't move right for that; I actually remember often getting stuck with "weird" or "annoying" characters in school plays for that reason). I always (in English anyway) forgot my lines and couldn't get the expressions right and couldn't cry on cue or any of that stuff everyone else could do.

An autistic friend of mine was in drama club and a very good actress, though.
