Hi all! Just thought I'd ask. My son often complains of itchy ears (inside the ears) I often see him trying to put his fingers in his ears, or covering one or both ears. When I ask him to stop putting his fingers in his ears he says but they are really itchy. Is this due to an AS sensory thing? Or is it something else? His ears look clean.

My ears would 'itch' when I heard a sound I don't like. It's not quite the level of pain, per se, so itch was the best word I could find for it.

Mine itch like CRAZY lately. I clean them well and don't have any allergies I know of. No idea, but very unnerving.

I've always had itchy ears. Not sure why. I don't think it's connected to AS; I think it just "is."

itchy years on this end too. not sure why-always attributed it to either allergies or tic or not sure. They've been itching quite a bit lately--so I'm assuming it's allergies.

Whenever I got an ear infection my ear canals got itchy. They never hurt, but they felt itchy. I didn't know it and let the infection worsen until I started to not be able to hear anything before I went to see the doctor. I got ear infections all the time and we started going to the doctor if my ear itchiness lasted a couple days.

Allergies....

The nose is another point allergies can effect.

If a hot shower makes the symptoms go away for a while,
then it might be beneficial to go to an allergist for scratch tests.

allergy shots, and other treatments can make a big difference
in reducing these sorts of sensory issues.

It could be related to allergies. The pollen levels outside right now in most of the US is astronomical. Does the roof of his mouth itch, too? That's another big sign that it's an allergy. His pediatrician should be able to tell you if it's allergies, or not, and if so prescribe an antihistamine to help.

Thanks for all the replies :D
Just to clarify, we live in Australia, so it is autumn/fall here. His ears are itchy all year round, so bad last week he must have stuck his fingers in his ears and made one of them bleed.
