True, it would just be a tube flying through space. But it could have two wings and just be called double wing

But X is sexy... hence X-treme, X-tra, X men, Weapon X, seX, Triple X, X-machines

Double just hasnt got it

he (Big george) never explained why it is shaped like an X

If you play EAW (empire at war) with the rebels you will see that x-wings fold their x-wings to gain more speed but lack firepower

ever played the game X-wing ?

For that matter, I read in some Star Wars guide to vehicles
and vessels that the ex-Rebel Alliance even have a K-wing
spacecraft; supposed to be their new-generation heavy attack
spacecraft or something.
