I found this free download - Freemind. It like gives you a mindmap.
I find it easier than making lists.
It branches out like a geneology tree and you can group thoughts and see them more easily. You can highlight, flag, change colors acording to the group or importance.

My mind gets so cluttered sometimes, it is helping me put things in some kind of reasonable order.

Like: I need to get a fridge and freezer in my garage. To do this I need to move a tool bench. To move the tool bench I need to get all the clutter out of the garage. So I need to have a yard sale and organize. To have a yard sale I need to move two broken cars in the driveway (oh, how did I ever get to this point) to move the cars I need to jump or tow one out, to move the other I need to buy a battery. ---- Therefore to get my freezer I need to buy a battery.

I could see a lot of applications for a program like this.
School - one branch for each class
Writing - expand characters and storylines to see if they work
Work - get projects done in order
Home - by each day or job or child

Make plans and easy-to-understand notes with this mindmapping tool.

Thoughts go every which way; you might need a map to follow them all. FreeMind lets you take notes in a branching, tree-like "mind map." Psychologists say that mind maps are easier to follow than traditional outlines. You can add colors, images, text, and special formatting to any of the branches.
FreeMind is an open source project. The minimum version has a small footprint; the maximum version uses more disk space, but can export the maps as scaled vector graphics

That's cool.... an algorithm for my life!

just what I need... now if only I had another program to remind me to check in on this program!

I'll have to check out the link... although I'm worried it's only available for Windows and not for Macs :(
