It's a simple concept, post lyrics for a song that represents you. A theme song for yourself.

Depeche Mode - Shake The Disease

Quote:
I’m not going down on my knees,
Begging you to adore me
Can’t you see it’s misery
And torture for me
When I’m misunderstood
Try as hard as you can, I’ve tried as hard as I could
To make you see
How important it is for me

~Chorus~
Here is a plea
From my heart to you
Nobody knows me
As well as you do
You know how hard it is for me
To shake the disease
That takes hold of my tongue
In situations like these

Understand me
Understand me
Understand me
Understand me

Some people have to be
Permanently together
Lovers devoted to
Each other forever
Now I’ve got things to do
And I’ve said before that I know you have too
When I’m not there
In spirit I’ll be there

Chorus

Understand me
Understand me
Understand me
Understand me

Chorus x4

I have several-The two bouncing around in my brain ATM are Blind Melon-No Rain(Never actually heard it, only read the lyrics) and Relient K-High of 75

Quote:
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watchin' the puddles gather rain
And all I can do is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view
But it's not sane, It's not sane

I just want some one to say to me
I'll always be there when you wake
Ya know I'd like to keep my cheeks dry today
So stay with me and I'll have it made

And I don't understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there's no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it's a great escape

escape......escape......escape......

All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
ya don't like my point of view
ya think I'm insane
Its not sane......it's not sane

Quote:
We were talking together
I said, "what's up with this weather?"
Dont know whether or not
How sad I just got
'Cause on my own volition.
What if I'm just missing the sun

And tomorrow, I know,
Will be rainy at best.
And the forecast, I know,
Is that I'll be depressed.

But I'll wait outside
Hopin that I'll catch sight of the sun.

[Chorus:]
Because on and off,
The clouds have fought
Their controll over the sky

And lately the weather
Has been so Bi-polar
And Consequently so have I

And now I'm sunny with a High
of 75
Since You took my heavy heart
And made it light

And its funny how you find
You enjoy your life
When you're happy to be alive

[Chorus]

And the temprature is freezing
And then, after dark,
There is a cold frost sweeping
In over my heart

And we might break up
If I dont wake up to the sun

[Chorus]

Sunny with a High of 75
Since You took my heavy heart
And made it light (made it light)

And its funny how you find
You enjoy your life
When you're happy to be...
Alive

There are definetely more, I just have to think of them.

"Love is All" by Yanni - my primary theme song, with one small change: redefining the word "love" to my made-up word "thrall" (derivative of enthrall, the sense of being carried away by great artwork, or the sense of fulfilling one's purpose in life).

'Twas raining in my heart
Falling deep inside of me
Drowning in my soul
This silence rushes over me.

I am breath against this fire
And I will not turn away.
Waiting for time to carry me
Like a tempest to the sea
Standing strong
Watching over.

Love will keep me believing
Through the dark, can you hear me calling?
Holding on when I'm dreaming.
Love is all

Thundering on high
Love was all I knew before I fell.
And now the shots of man
Echoing inside myself.

I am breath against this fire
And I will not turn away.
Waiting for time to carry me
Like a tempest to the sea
Standing strong
Watching over.

cool idea for a thread! :)

Silence is Golden ~ Garbage

If I am silent then I am not real
But if I speak up then no one will hear
If I wear a mask there's somewhere to hide

Silence is Golden
I have been broken
Safe in my own skin
So nobody wins

If I raise my voice will someone get hurt?
And if I can't feel then I won't get touched
If no truths are spoken then no lies can hide

Silence is Golden
Nobody gets in
Safe in my own skin
So nobody wins

Did you hear me speak?
Do you understand?
Did you hear my voice?
Will you hold my hand?
Do you understand me?

Won't someone listen?
Nobody gets in
My body's a temple
But nothing is simple
Silence is golden
I have been broken
Something was stolen
Safe in my own skin

5 Minutes Alone by Pantera

I see you had your mind all made up you group of
Pitiful liars. Before I woke to face the day, your master
Plan transpired. -Something told me- this job had more to
Meet the eye. My song is not believed? My words some-
What deceiving? Now I'm unwhole.
You've waged a war of nerves
But you can't crush the kingdom
Can't be what your idols are. Can't leave the scar.
You cry for compensation. I ask you please just give us...
5 minutes alone
I read your eyes, your mind was made up. You took me for
A fool. You used complexion of my skin for a counter
Rascist tool. -You can't burn me- I've spilled my guts out
In the past. Taken advantage of because you know where
I've come. My past.
You've waged a war of nerves
But you can't crush the kingdom
Can't be what your idols are. Can't leave the scar.
You cry for compensation. I ask you please just give us...
5 minutes alone

Right now
BARRY CROMPTON - Time Off For Bad Behavior
words & music: barry crompton
© 2004 Vigilante Records LA (ASCAP)

Quote:

she works from dawn to dusk
it's doing in her head
she'll still be workin' like a dog
when the sun has gone to bed

she's just tryin' to make a buck
trying to make ends meet
she remembers when the lovin'
was easy and sweet

it's a long term sentence
with no-one to save her
she gets no time off
for bad behavior

she gets home every night
she's tired and beat
ain't even livin' for the weekend
she's dead on her feet

no time for the days
when she went too far
drinkin' with the girls
at her favorite bar
and givin' the boy
something sweet to savor

she gets no time off
for bad behavior.

oh it's a lonesome situation
no reprieve from this incarceration
she'd sell just about everything
for a few days off
from life's prison wing

she wants her feet in the sand
like she don't care
she want a big strong man
with muscles everywhere

she wants to jump in that water
till she's good and wet
a couple of beers
and something to regret

some kind warden
please do her a favor
she wants a little time off
for bad behavior.

Hard to say the one that jumps to mind is me from many a X-boy friends point of vue

Everclear- Chemical smile

She lost her focus yesterday
She lost her focus in the sun
She sits and stares at it for hours
She says she likes to go outside
She gets hung up on the wind
She gets lost inside the happy noise
Sometimes I don’t understand her
Sometimes I don’t want to understand her

She says no no no no
She don’t want no double life
She says I should know why
She seems happier at night
Her color tv and her chemical smile

I don’t wanna know the reason
I don’t wanna know the reason why

She says
Jesus owes her money
She says
The angels are her friends

What the hell does that mean?

She’s got the chemical smile

I cant be defined with just one song. So, I'll just say I'm a little bit of Everything.

Alanis Morisette wrote:
I can be an as*hole of the grandest kind
I can withhold like it’s going out of style
I can be the moodiest baby that you've ever seen
And you've never met anyone
Who is as positive as I am sometimes

I am the wisest woman you've ever met.
I am the kindest soul with whom you've connected.
I have the bravest heart that you've ever seen
And you've never met anyone
Who's as positive as I am sometimes.

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can’t relate
And you’re still here

I blame everyone else, not my own partaking
My passive-aggressiveness can be devastating
I'm terrified and mistrusting
And you’ve never met anyone as,
As closed down as I am sometimes.

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can’t relate
And you’re still here

What I resist, persists, and speaks louder than I know
What I resist, you love, no matter how low or high I go

I'm the funniest woman that you've ever known
I am the dullest woman that you've ever known

I'm the most gorgeous woman that you've ever known
and you've never met anyone
Who is as everything as I am sometimes

You see everything, you see every part
You see all my light and you love my dark
You dig everything of which I'm ashamed
There's not anything to which you can’t relate
And you’re still here

And you’re still here
And you're still here...

((The contrasting/bolded parts are what is relevant. And note that she doesn't contrast "gorgeous." Hmm. So I guess that one doesn't count for me either. :P))

"Hero of the Day" - Metallica. You probably know the lyrics, but here they are anyway.

It was my cheer-up song for a long time, til I ruined the effect by listening to it too often.

Quote:
Mama they try and break me

A window burns to light the way back home
A light that warms no matter where they've gone
They're off to find the hero of the day
But what if they should fall by someone's wicked way

Still the window burns, time so slowly turns
Someone there is sighing
Keepers of the flames, do you feel your names
Can't you hear your babies crying

Mama they try and break me
Still they try and break me

'Scuse me while I tend to how I feel
These things return to me that still seem real
Now deservingly this easy chair
But the rocking starts the wheels of despair

Don't want your aid, but the fist I've made
For years can't hold or feel
No I'm not all me, so please excuse me
While I tend to how I feel

But now the dreams and waking screams
That everlast the night
So build a wall, behind it crawl
And hide until it's light
So can't you hear your babies crying now?

Still the window burns, time so slowly turns
And someone there is sighing
Keepers of the flames, can't you hear your names
Can't you hear your babies crying?

But now the dreams and waking screams
That everlast the night
So build a wall, behind it crawl
And hide until it's light
So can't you hear your babies crying now?

Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try
Mama they try
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try and break me
Mama they try
Mama they try

There's another one that depending on my mood, I like just a little bit more or less than this one. It's "Time Travelling Blues" by Orange Goblin

Quote:
Oh baby, my time has come
I'm gonna step aboard this ship today
And head for the sun
Don't know what I'll see there
Don't know what I'll find
Baby, I'll be happy
If I find some peace of mind

Time travel, it's been getting me down
I been so long, I don't ever think I'm coming down
I've seen tomorrow, and I've
Seen yesterday
Will I see your face again, oh baby
You know I just can't say, oh no no

No I just can't say
Baby I'm coming down
I'm coming down
No I just can't say, baby
That I'm coming down
Where I'm coming down
Oh won't you take me away
Take me away, away, away, yeah

Will we see the sunshine baby?
Will we ride the skies?
Will we find tomorrow baby?
Will we travel time?
Will we see the sunshine baby?
Will we ride the skies?
Will we find tomorrow baby?
Will we travel time?

We own the sun, we own the sky
We own tomorrow and we wanna fly
(repeat x14)

Beatles - IMAGINE

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Byrds - Turn! Turn! Turn

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time of war, a time of peace
A time of love, a time of hate
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time of peace, I swear it's not too late!

Grateful Dead - A Touch of Gray

Must be getting early, clocks are running late.
Paint my love a morning sky, it’s all cold.
Dawn is breaking everywhere, light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains I don’t care, but it’s all right
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.

I see you’ve got your list out, say your piece and kiss off.
Guess I get the gist of it, but it’s all right
Oh well anyway, sorry that you feel that way.
Every silver linings got a touch of grey
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.

It’s a lesson to me, the ablers and the beggars and the thieves
The abc’s we all think of, try to win a little love.

I know the rent is in arrears, the dog has not been fed in years
It’s even worse than it appears, but it’s all right

Cow is giving kerosene, kid can’t read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene, but it’s all right
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.

Shoe is on the hand that fits, that’s all there really is to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit, but it’s all right

Oh well a touch of grey, kinda suits you anyway,
That’s all I had to say, but it’s all right
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.

It’s a lesson to me, the devils and the east and the free
The abc’s we all must face, try to save a little grace.

Goo Goo dolls - Iris

Iris

And I’d give up forever to touch you
’cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that i’ll
Ever be
And I don’t want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
’cause sooner or later it’s over
I just don’t want to miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t
Coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you’re alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
.

Kansas - Dust in Wind
(Chorus)

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreamin',
I can hear them say

(Chorus)
Carry on my wayward son,
For there'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Now don't you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely
means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune, but
I hear the voices say

Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you

(Chorus)
========================================
The Lads, Alone

I am alone in the darkness
Can You hear me now
Are You the same
Or are You different somehow
Can You reach me

Can I be sure that You won’t hurt me
If I let You in
Are You the same
Or are You different somehow
Can I trust You

If I gave You my heart
If I gave You my soul
Would You take me apart
Would You make me whole

CHORUS:
Do You know my name
When the tears fall are You there to feel the pain
Can You reach me here
Can You give me what I’m looking for
Can You take away the fear
Can I trust You

They say that You could come and meet me
Are You really there
Are You the same or are You different somehow
Can You love me

If I gave You my heart
If I gave You my soul
Would You take me apart
Would You make me whole

.

I'd pick 'Come Dancing' by The Kinks, because I'm a much better Dancer than a Talker.

Lyrics for Album: Craig Morgan
(Craig Morgan/Harley Allen)

Cadence:
I don't know why I left (I don't know why I left)
But I know it won't be long (But I know it won't be long)
No it won't be long (No it won't be long)
Till I get back home
Song:
They gave me a green uniform and black boots for my feel
Eighteen and wild as hell, I thought it would be neat
They put me on a plane to some strange and foreign land
I said my good-bye to mom and dad and hello to Uncle Sam

Once I was a soldier and not afraid to die
Now I'm a little older and not afraid to cry
Everyday I'm thankful just to be alive
When you've been where I've been any kind of life
Is paradise

Christmas of eighty-nine was a lonely time for me
Panama was probably fine but it was nothing like Tennessee
I never thought the day would come when I might have to kill a man
I did not sleep a wink that night but we won for Uncle Sam

Once I was a soldier and not afraid to die
Now I'm a little older and not afraid to cry
Everyday I'm thankful just to be alive
When you've been where I've been any kind of life
Is paradise

If you've been where I've been any kind of life
Is paradise

It's paradise
Paradise

Artist/Band: Sons Of The Desert
Lyrics for Song: Everybody's Gotta Grow Up Sometime
Lyrics for Album: Change

Why can't I?
G.I. Joe moved to Mexico
He's hiding from the IRS
Wearing diamond rings and livin' like a king
At an undisclosed address
Superman flew to Japan
Gave up fightin' crime
He's doin' commercials for compact cars
Livin' in a big high rise

Everybody's gotta grow up sometime
To get a little slice of that big ol' American pie
Yeah, everybody's gotta grow up sometime
Why can't I?

The ol' Lone Ranger bought an RV park
Somewhere in Arizona
And Tonto built a big casino
And owns half of Oklahoma
Barbie and Ken, they got a divorce
I guess that's the way it goes
She got the house and the accessories
And told Ken to hit the road

Everybody's gotta grow up sometime
To get a little slice of that big ol' American pie
Yeah, everybody's gotta grow up sometime
Why can't I?

All of my heroes abandoned their egos
And left me at home on the range
I'm still stuck and I'm still down on my luck
Waitin' for something to change

Everybody's gotta grow up sometime
To get a little slice of that big ol' American pie
Yeah, everybody's gotta grow up sometime
Why can't I?

That is incorrect, it is actually John Lennon not the Beatles.

My theme song is a synthesis of mutiple songs.
So I'll pick the best segments to give you an overall impression.

The Smiths
'How Soon Is Now?'
Quote:
You go to a club on your own. Leave on your own. You go home and you cry and you want to die.

Orange Juice
'Consolation Prize'
Quote:
I wore my fringe like Roger Mcguins, I wore it hoping to impress. So frightfully camp I make you laugh, tomorrrow I'll buy myself a dress...
I'll never be man enough for you...

I don't think that I actually have a theme song, which is odd, cosidering that I started assigning songs to various points in my life three years ago. I've had things like Metallica's 'Until It Sleeps', or Godsmacks 'Make Me Believe' (Though come to think of it, most of last summer was from 'Faceless')
And let's not even start on 'Down Once More'.
How very cheery.

I think now I though about it, if I wanted a song to play when I wlked down the street I'd really like to have The Carry Bagman by The Fall to play.
