I found another train picture, perhaps the best one yet!

If this thread dies here, at least it will die happy. :D

The train that Britain wants to likely forget, but I find fascinating

British Rail Class 370, Advanced Passenger Train-Prototype

although a failure some of it's technology got carried to other trains built, such as InterCity 225 and the Class 390 "Pendolino" sets, the latter sometimes being considered the spiritual successor to the APT as it runs on the same lines

^ You ever played Chris Sawyer's Locomotion? The APT is my favorite train in the game because of its speed and performance around corners (plus it had animation for the tilting too). I saw a few pictures of it online and though it was fascinating. Too bad it never got a chance to show its worth.

I think the Tangara on Sydney's commuter rail system is just plain cool looking. I never got to ride one, but I did get to ride the (now defunct) "4D" train (the only one of its kind) that ran on Melbourne's system.

I got motion sickness on European trains. My parents always made me ride in the backwards-facing seats and there was usually no scenery but a tall dirt embankment. And the food they served on the long European train rides was terrible! :eew: But that was back in the early 90's. Maybe things are better now.

 AUSTRALIA!!

I hope that one day I can spend at least a few years there, maybe the rest of my life.

That Australian train looks different from anything I've seen before.

That's a neat-looking locomotive.

What's that small track on the left for?

that is technically not a locomotive as there is a none-driving motor car in the centre of the train with a pantograph for the overhead wires, so it makes the train an electric multiple unit as opposed to loco hauled

I have absolutely no idea, the last remaining British Rail Class 370 in the world is at Crewe in a railway museum, in the outdoors as pictured, so I suspect it (the very narrow track) has something to do with it

ah shame on you Ian...... you forget exactly how old the InterCity 125 sets are then.... they were built in the 70s and to this day they are one of the few decent trains left, the class 43 locos have stood the test of time, as have the Mk 3 carriages :)

I'm building a five inch steam loco, have been since 1975. Coal fired probably 2k hours in all when completed. Yet being aspi I am having terrible motivation problems - even actually being able to work on it. Too many years of isolation. I never feel lonely, only isolated. Yet I could not stand the company of a fellow enthusiast. I think of how we've no kids so it will only become a rich mans toy, after a house clearance vulture rakes thro this house. Anyone would see 'perfect model' I see only faults.
