Whatever the rest of the world thinks, I'm glad I live in America. People don't sail in rubber inner tubes, seal themselves in cargo containers, or hike across the dessert to get to Canada, or France, for that matter. No other country provides as many advantages to it's citizens as America, and the citizens of no other country have as many opportunities. We may not be the best at everything, but we are the best at the things that matter. As to the rest of the world, they can think whatever they want, I really don't care. See how fast they come running next time they have a natural disaster, or El Presidente next door decides to annex their whole country. People like to trash us till they need us, and they never say no to our money or military aide. American dollars are still good anywhere, and anyone can understand English if it's spoken loudly enough, works for me. :D

Damn, you make compelling arguement :P . I admit, I like America. I like Canada better, but that`s only to be expected.

sung to the tune of the war of 1812. This is actually closer to how it happened. The irony is it is a parody of a lie.

Oh, come back, proud Canadians
To before you had TV,
No hockey night in Canada,
There was no CBC (Oh, my God!).
In 1812, Madison was mad,
He was the president, you know
Well, he thought he’d tell the British where they ought to go
He thought he’d invade Canada,
He thought that he was tough
Instead we went to Washington....
And burned down all his stuff!

And the White House burned, burned, burned,
And we’re the one’s that did it!
It burned, burned, burned,
While the president ran and cried.
It burned, burned, burned,
And things were very historical.
And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies
Waa waa waah!
In the War of 1812!

Now some hillbillies from Kentucky,
Dressed in green and red,
Left home to fight in Canada,
But they returned home dead
It’s the only war the Yankees lost, except for Vietnam
And also the Alamo... and the Bay of... ham.
The loser was America,
The winner was ourselves,
So join right in and gloat about the War of 1812

And the White House burned, burned, burned,
And we’re the one’s that did it!
It burned, burned, burned,
While the president ran and cried.
It burned, burned, burned,
And things were very historical.
And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies
Waa waa waah!
In the War of 1812!

In 1812, we were just sittin’ around,
Mindin’ our own business, puttin’ crops into the ground.
We heard the soldiers coming and we didn’t like that sound.
So we took a boat to Washington and burned it to the ground.

Oh... we... fired our guns, but the Yankees kept-a coming,
There wasn’t quite as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and the Yankees started running,
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, oh, oh....
They ran through the snow and they ran through the forest,
They ran through the bushes where the beavers wouldn’t go.
They ran so fast, they forgot to take their culture,
Back to America, and Gulf and Texaco

So, if you go to Washington, its buildings clean and nice,
Bring a pack of matches, and we’ll burn the White House twice!

And the White House burned, burned, burned,
But the Americans won’t admit it
It burned, burned, burned,
It burned and burned and burned
It burned, burned, burned,
Now, I bet that made them mad
And the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies
Waa waa waah!
In the War of 1812!

Actually, they do risk their lives to try to get to Canada.

To a Cuban, Haitian, or Chinese person, there is little difference between Canada and the US.

And there are plenty of people that risk their lives to get to France, Spain or other European countries.

My uncle decided to emigrate to Canada, whereas my family settled in America. I still question as to why he chose Canada.

Canada is the number 1 place that Scandinavians would most like to move to according to recent polls.

I once heard a joke about Israeli cabinet members who were debating their country's deep problems.
They were all ringing their hands trying to figure out what to do,
when one advisor blurted out, "I've got it! We'll attack the United States!"
Everyone reacted with astonishment at this loony idea. "What?! Are you crazy!!? Attack the United States?!?"
"No, listen", he said, "Every country they go to war with is set for life! They give them tons of money, food, clothing..."

I was born and raised and currently live in the USA. It is personally my favorite country. However, i haven't lived anywhere else. I can see how it offends foreigners to hear americans saying how our country is the best. This is all a matter of opinion. In my opinion america is my favorite. However, someone else may say England is the best. Or France. Or Canada. Its all a matter of opinion.

Whatever...

And I take exception at that! I thought I was the worst example of an American according to WP!
Don't you dare go awarding that moniker to someone else!

That was the opening premise for "The Mouse that Roared" - the Grand Duchy of Fenwick decided to attack the US so they would get development aid. But somehow they won! Only in a Peter Sellers movie.

Oh, very good, thank you for the reference. :) Hadn't heard the story in years, and never even saw the movie.

Yeah, and at the end of the version I heard, a guy says worriedly, ".....But what if we win?"

I don't have a problem with Australia -- I prefer it to the U.K. and Canada, actually.

But it did happen. The Israelis attacked a US warship in the 6 day war and sunk it and machine gunned survivors. See http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/ussliberty.html

The USA does send a lot of money to Israel so I wonder if it really worked.
