I have both AS and I have OCD and anxiety, I think my anxiety is mostly trauma related but some of it runs in my family as well.

I was diagnosed with anxiety depression and social phobia by a psychiatrist, I later went to see a specialist who diagnosed me with AS.

I dont know, I was initially diagnosed with selective mutism when I was a kid which was heavily linked with social anxiety. I was aspie as well but didnt get diagnosed until I was 18. I did have social anxiety as well or im pretty sure I did. Cause attempting to intiate a conversation or talk to someone was very hard. It terrified me. That psych I saw for 3 years when I was young didnt realize anything. I dont know if it was because I was female. I was guessing because aspergers was less known about back then.

I have had similiar dx's from about 3 different professionals. After years of searching for help I found a post on a board and read the thread. Everyone's respones seemed so familiar to me that I started researching Aspergers so at this point I am selfdiagnosed. I start with a new therapy with someone who has aspergers so this should be very interesting.

Research should be done on how many females are miss diagnosed from what seems to be sexist stereotyping. I know I was suprised to find out I had moderate ADD. I only stumbled onto that, because my husband diagnosed himself and told me I needed to read the same website. Yup it described some of my problems. ADD is another disorder that is quite often missed in young girls according to articles I've been read over the years.

Something else I don't find suprising as I read threads here and on other boards. And that is how often people go from therapist to therapist with their symptoms and they eventually are able to self diagnosis with reasonable accuracy thanks to the piles of info out now.

My psych said that many times conditions like ADHD and autism is missed in girls. For a while I was diagnosed with non-verbal learning disabilities, depression, anxiety, blah blah blah... but now I know the truth. I am under the spectrum as well as having ADHD and I do have anxiety, and some phobias. I do think that anxiety and ASD are many times intertwined.
