I find myself telling others way too much about my personal life - sexual or otherwise - than they need to or care to know. I'm aware that they don't need to know it, but for some reason it just pours out of me and I keep going. I can even see that they're either offended, disgusted, or bored, and I still keep going. I also suck at keeping secrets, lying, and setting up surprises, because I can't seem to keep myself from saying something.

I dunno if this is an AS thing or a nekowafer thing. Anyone else do this?

In the past, yes, I used to always reveal too much.

But then I took a good look at myself and the way people react around me. Then I made the very careful decision to stop being so mindlessly forthcoming. It's hard because I just want to run my damn mouth. But I have to think twice every time I say ANYTHING.

I used to do that all the time, but eventually I realized that everytime I did that, the person would run to the hills... Right now it's very difficult for anyone to get any personal data out of me...

yes, I reveal too much.

I remember a comment the husband of an AS wife made here, he said that she speaks from instincts, meaning that she utters her instincts, which was something I hadn't understood before about being a blabbermouth before. It's a big taboo in NT culture.

If anyone has any tips or hints on how not to be so guileless I could use them.

I used to do this all the time (and still do if someone asks a straight question) until I finally realised that when someone says something like "How are you today?" the expected answer is "Good!" not "Well it was a bit soggy getting here and there was this person who kept on..." Seriously, it would be so much easier if people would ask such questions only when they actually wanted answers, and otherwise just use statements like "Hello!". I find filtering what I say all day to be tedious and annoying. And unfortunately in the job I am in, nessisary.

Yeah, I do, I talk too much about my mental health issues with others, much too everyone's annoyance.

I'm sort of paranoid so the answer to your question is no. I tend to be very careful about what I reveal about myself online and in person.

I've certainly tried not to say too much but I always do. I've even gone to work before thinking, "I will not babble on about myself today" and it still doesn't work. I somehow forget I said that, or only remember after a conversation is started and someone's actually interested for a minute. It's a part of why my coworker's hated me.

I often felt lonely and wanted someone else to talk to and would say too much. I would be fearfull about what I might say now days as I have some thoughts that are not socialy accepted, but I am hoping that this will pass and I have just gained another perspective. I hope I am not saying too much, but I am a good guy, as long as I keep my good sides under control nothing terrible will happen. I remember once while I was a bit talky that I was out of character and over hitting on someone, geez these stupid hormones.

I'm better about it now, but it has taken years
of learning the hard way. Looking back on it,
I think many of the times I have driven people
away from myself was because I said too much.
That and also the way I said it....

Does saying the wrong thing count as saying too much?
I'm guilty of that, too.
