I have brought up a bunch topics that interest
me, and perhaps you folks, so feel free to
offer you experiences and stories, or solutions.

Thanks for contributing to the random thought
thread.

Calmer V.A.T feelings wrote:
Things have calmed a bit since the posting of my forum
yesterday. I am phased out of the reaction about the V.A.T
results. I started with Pryaxis, and then the WrongPlanet
posting, and now time must move on.

What do you do to sort your feeling for better
reaction value, not over-reaction value?

reasons why the job selections were wrong wrote:
It would be nice to have some employment. Too bad
that the 2 box stores I took chances on didn't work out. I
wasn't surprised though. The work wasn't natural for me
and it is what it is. This has been one of my failings in job
searching. Desparation for a income source and isolation
make a bad combination when finding a income.

Have you folks had any unnatural job choices?

hopes, clarity, and places I don't want to go wrote:
If i hadn't flushed out my feelings quickly these
clarities won't happen. I am hoping for a good sign from
Susan. If schooling is possible, awesome. If nothing comes
from this? Hmmmmm? That is a area I don't want to go to.

Have you folks had any particular disappointments
that you wished would have worked out?

Film Samplings for video projects wrote:
I have sampled out the Sherlock Holmes films
and the Others filmed. The Holmes ones seem to
have a place in video capturing. The Others I returned
since it wasn't working as I hoped. I have my
Harry Potter ones as the basics to start since
I indentify with the characters.

Are there any particular films you would like
to make a music video out of, or a emoti-vid
out of.....

Here is a explanation of a emoti-Vid wrote:
I have had a interest in others fan-made H_P videos.
I call them Emoti-Vids by the fact a song and video i
llustration create a emotion for my autistic subconscious
to write and create. You can say "creating my own world"
by thought and feeling.

I hope this adds clarity to what my emoti-vid
projects are about. What songs and movie
clips would make up your emoti-vid?

Collecting for Sentimental and not always $ value wrote:
This collection would be worthless in the S.F area.
I should Know, I had a built up flea market collection
of 30 such type including better guided valued one and
had to settle for $15, or .50¢ each and that was after
most stores in that area. That is why if had to sell
them for better things it is here.

The only one kept was the Rob Roy issue.
I dog eared it by having it in my computer bag, but
that is a sign of affection for a $9 valued issue.
It cost me $5 at the flea market.

What would you collect for sentimental value?
What would you collect for physical value?

Laptops, Powerbooks in the flea market wrote:
I wouldn't go to the computer flea for computers.
I did all I could there and the reliabity was decreasing
in the products found. The only value for me
there now is spare parts machines, though
many units will still work.

The best products were those 100 series
Powerbooks. They were cheap, worked or got
parted and when you thought one was dead it comes
to life like a chamelon. The Wallstreets suck
down there and wouldn't trust them.

I still have the original Wallstreet I bought.
It is coupled with the flea market CDRW-scsi ext.
The cost was $230 in flea dollars when a Wallstreet
still commanded $400 basic price in early 2005.

Now I can get the same Wallstreet for $200-
$250 with a basic 90 day warranty online now. The
speeds run in 266-300 variety. I would of bought
one if I hadn't done this road trip and got this Pismo
under flea-quality circumstances. The 3rd
Wallstreet of 4 was eating, burning out, and
decaying new and old drives at a rapid rate.
This was until I found out that Disk Permission
Repair under X.2.4 solves that problem mostly,
still unsure?

The original W'st I bought at the S.F flea is still
alive barely, but still burns with a abused casing.
The second one was toast and parted for the
CD-Rom in the original and later better casing one.
I got a 4th one and gave it to Robert Eichhorn my
business partner at that time in used computer sales.

What experiences have you had in used
or flea market computer purchases?

Wallstreet days gone by...! wrote:
Gone are those days as a Wallstreet no
longer fit my need other than as faithful Wifi'rs,
downloaders, burners(hence forth scsi-CDRW).
As a matter of fact, the problem was fixed in
the better shape unit. It still may have a
flippity-floppity screen as all my flea quality
Wallstreets had, it stopped burning out, un-formatting,
or eating at hard drives under X.2.4 since
I discovered Disk Permission Repair in X.2.4's
utitlity folder. The Wallstreet is now more
forgiving on it's hard disks(victims are a 4g,
10g, 40g-new in box in less than 2 weeks).
I am now running X.2.4 and Disk Permission Repair
every time i finish updating and had this 6g
for over a month without complaint from the
Wallstreet.

The problem was that with a DVD player
I am now able to make emoti-vids as well
as run X.4.2 is I choose in a pismo, and it's
performance is far greater than the Wallstreet
can everhave.

The thing that makes the Wallstreet VERY
functional is they are excellent downloaders,
burners, and can take abuse. Another thing
is that the pismo won't ram disk, and since my
Norton 5 isn't bootable, I have to use Tech Tool 3
to keep it happy.

What do you miss from your older computers?
What do you not miss from your older computers?

Ram Disk wrote:
A long time ago when ram wasn't past 512mb
max in a laptop or Powerbook one would use a portion
of the ram to save battery life or run non-bootable
disks with a bootable folder in a ram-disk.

You go into memory and select ram disk and
allot a certain amount of ram for a simplified
and bootable OS or copying, storing purposes.

My theory is in a 1gig ram to 3gig ram world
this old world technological solution no longer need
apply as a optional built-in boot disk.

Have any of you folks used ram disks & how?

Disk Permission Repair and X.2.4 problem solving wrote:
Disk Permissions Repair is a Hard Disk Utility
application in the Utility Folder in Applications Folder.
It works like a Pram'ing and then Rebuilding of desktop.
It resets and aligns all updates and has done what is
considered a miracle, NOT KILLING HARD DRIVES in
Wallstreets. I now know how to keep the Pismo happy
if I find X.2.4 Disks that want to work on it.

Have any of you folks used Disk Permission Repair?
If so, is my theory of it replacing Pram'ing and rebuilding
correct?

CDRW's and X conflicts wrote:
X.2.4 and Lite-On 52x39x52 CDRW/DVD
is the drive that burns and it is in a Iomega casing
that says CDRW. it says that it works on X.2 and X.3.
That isn't true, when I run 9.1 - X.2.4 it works like
a charm and has earned it's keep. When I run X.2.8
it is reacting to the burner as a "What burner?" thus
invalidates X.3.?. in a Pismo if I want to burn.

Hmmmmm?
What burning CD experiences have you had?
What limitations in OS's have you experienced
in using one?
_______________________________

X.3 or not X.3? wrote:
Hmmmmm? Do I need X.3.? No! I am having no
difficulty in a slower Wallstreet doing my video projects
under X.2.4 and do need that burner. I will be
burner-less thus would have to get a $40 used
Zip Module for this Pismo unit. I don't mind, since
the other unit has a Zip module. In the day that
Wallstreet dies, I just transfer the parts to another
Wallstreet $200 or less box. The parts and accessories
are there.

I know I can find a floppy module and zip module
for the Wallstreet for $80 or less(hence forth allows
older software to install in 9.1). There is a wealth
of material out there but I prefer a CD-Burn than a
floppy disk. Too bad the burner doesn't recongize
X.3? That is a area I havent explored yet.

What kind of conflicts do you experience in upgrading
OS?

Keeping the physical condition of your portable
computer happy suggestions wrote:

I for one, have owned numerous Powerbooks since
1997. I started with a 5300(piece of law-suit junk)
then fell in love(and still like) the 140-180 series.
I have owned a few between 1997-99. As a matter
of fact the $20 one from the S.F flea is Roberts favorite
writing and flyer setup tool(PB 180). This covers upto 1999.

Have you folks ever owned a 100 series?

The 1400 series miracle wrote:
The 1400 bug took me in 1999 to 2005, until
I discovered the Wallstreet at a affordable Flea price.

The video sucks, and like the Wallstreet it is a
proven workhorse. The keyboard are sucken in and
the screen is imbedded to not touch the keyboard.
This would be a later changed in 2000 when slim books
came out. The reliablity and speeds are good for
basic flyers and such, but otherwise, just be mindful
of the NIMH battery. The nimh has to be fullllly
drained in each recharge or will not recognize a
actual full charge. Thus 2 hours becomes 1/2 hour
charges in a years end but unless you recondition it
it will never see a full charge again.

Alot of our(robert and I) finds in 1400's had
amazing 1 hour + battery life in reconditioning
the battery, thus what was 15 minute charge is actually
1-2 hours under proper conditions.

The last 1400c/166/64/2gig/CDx8 we got and
sold had a 2 hour battery life after reconditioning,
but when we bought it for $50, 15minutes on the fly
max at the flea.

Have any of you folks had a NIMH battery laptop?
Have any of you folks had a NIMH battery Powerbook?
What were your experiences like?
If these were PC laptops they would be pentium I's
and what would your experiences be with them?

I discovered the Wallstreet bug in 2003 and still
have compassion for them. Too bad they were scsi
and old world rom set. My only qualm is under X.2.4
you have to run Disk Permissions on a religious time
basis.

$200 is the online price and great workhorses,
but a bit slow in the video editing department. They
also were a first......

1)...The only ones with dual batteries option =8hours tested
2)...The only ones with a OS 8.1 option to X.2.8 option
or the first to go 8 to well into a 3rd gen X OS.
3)...they had the first DVD with card required option.
4)...4mb vram wasn't too shabby
5)...Last to have embedded keyboards, later ones got marred
screens because the screen was too close to the key board
(Lombard and Pismo)

and the list can go on....

here are some care tips for 98-05 models of laptops
and powerbooks......Use a $1 piece of cloth cover the
keyboard and restpad area so you can limit 99'-05'
screen marring and scratching done by the keyboard
and oils permeantly embedding themselves on your
screen like perpechual stains.

other than that....nothing else comes to mind
at this moment.

Any issues with 99'-05' laptops & Powerbook
screen marring and keyboard oil problems you
folks may of had?

So many questions its hard to know where to start! I'll just do a few.

1) Wrong jobs.
That's a tough one. I think its time for a job change for me within the next few years. I guess I'm just not sure what I want to do when I grow up.

2) To not overreact.
Excercise is very important. Unforunitly, I've not been doing nearly enough. Getting enough sleep is important. It helps me to have somewhat of a schedule too. To much madness and I overreact.
It also helps to have people who will listen to me rant when necessary. It's helpful to have a bunch of outlets so no one gets overwhelmed.

and 3) Collections
I'm really not into collections. Little odds and ends that have special meaning to me, like the paperweight my child made for me, are important, other than that, none.

That is the point of this excersize. The idea is to cast
a net of questions, and I give my examples on how
I would approach them, and you the fisherperson
decipher your own catch of the questions answers.

Like a puzzle!

What direction would you like to take in this
great idea of life's changes in ones fiscal outlook?

Do we grow up, because adults a bigger children in
a larger world of knowledge and the wealth of giving
and taking, thus part-taking of this vast fruit called
growth.

So what really is a adult?

Hmmmm? How would you describe a adult and child?

The fact that we accumulate and let go once knowledge
is adquired in one form or another is a hobby. This would
be a way of looking at also?

Any thoughts here?

1. Hmmm... I don't know about wrong jobs. Maybe the first one. Working at Schnucks Video Store. I was horrible at it. Though I don't consider it wasted experience. I have learned all too well from it that I can't do those kinda jobs, hehe.

2. Not overreacting... sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. But I think I am often kept in check because I am so overly aware of consequences.

3. Collections for sentimental value... anything sentimental really. Anything related to interests or something that a loved one gave me.

4. Collections for physical value... really anything which pleases my eye and which I can afford. Books are great to read but I also choose particular editions by their cover, even if I end up paying more. I would really like to be able to collect antiques, but, alas, I haven't the $$$.

feeling for better reaction value
only time helps. still waiting

all jobs are wrong because all require social interaction. the best i can do is the lesser of evils

disappointment: i wish i had known sooner that i had aspergers and chosen a different career in psychology

i would make a music video combining five for fighting superman with theme from evangelion (cruel angel) and backstreet boys meaning of being lonely and end with everything possible by fred brown. these summarize my life.

i am compelled to collect. probably my fountain pens have some worth, but likely everything else is stuff that i couldn't keep hands off. like shiny things and tops to things and melted pieces of metal. tried to sell some books on amazon but only a few sold, leaving me with hundreds i want to sell. computers always get obsolete so i give or throw them away

my third notebook came from pratt witney's "flea market" - great place for tinkerers. first from store: toshiba t-1000, brand new. second from computer consultant at work: acer ????. fourth and fifth from comp usa. four burnt out cpu while surfing, five gotten on replacement warranty. 4.5 was ipaq, 5.5 also ipaq with bluetooth and wireless. also had some desktops from various places as my mom likes to frequent computer shows and assembles her own computers

never had any probs burning cds. mp3 players another issue. my first was easy, second fairly easy and the one i bought for my mom a nightmare

my mom owns powerbook. when i was in grad school i tried to get her to use macs but she thought pcs were easier. this year she threw up her hands and now wont buy anything but a mac. i am hoping to get her old pc as it probably has some good stuff in it.

many good questions. safe stuff for me to post. thanks

examples of antiques for Ghosthunter to help with question/answer wrote:
If this were me it could be ancient coins, 10¢ Dell comics on a budget,
or 10¢ Comics ranging in the $30 or less range in a minimal theme
collection. Or old items like Pulp magazines from the 20's-40's
with Old Time Radio character themes. Or pehaps Old Mac Powerbooks,
and old microscopes made of REAL metal and not feeling like a toy;
say 1900+, or old telescopes.

for example at the S.F flea I got this pocket glass magnifier that
folds in 3 parts and is on my computer bag in case I need to
examine stamps, or old coins. I can give many examples, but this
should suffice for now.

Hmmmm?

I agree with you on this. If I had caughtit by age 30 i wouldn't

What area in psychology do you work in? I am assuming
your degree is in psychology.

is five for fighting superman a group? or cartoon? or????
then we have......

Cruel angel(torment?)

then "being lonely"(loss of hope?)

Who is fred brown? a particular group? or music type?

Well, my boss and I didn't get along. I wasn't very good at working the cash register nor at counting out my drawer quickly and accurately. I was bad enough at this that after awhile my boss got ticked off enough that she counted it out for me.

For the most part, I worked the cash register and restocked the videos onto the shelves.

Other than learning that I am really bad at those kinda jobs, I didn't learn much else.

Sometimes I just get angry. But the idea of "consequences" is always obsessively floating around my little brain that it's not frequent that I do something I really regret. This isn't really purposeful. I just always worry about consequences.

Well, I have pictures which are sentimental. A toy horse my father had given me. All of my books have sentimental value. Quite a few other things.
