That's why I gave no further details on Croatian girls in the other topic...
1) it would be off topic
2) I would sound like a pervert  (but I was 15 so I guess that's an excuse somehow? :) )

Anyway, yeah I would love to visit Ukraine. It seems a great and very diverse country. The cityscape of the different cities alone look very different. World of difference between Kyiv, Donetsk, Lvov and... the one with Dnepr in it, I always fail to write it correctly

This topic made me play this song again... Still sounds fresh after several years. Gorgeous lady, very nice song.

I have studied the country's history and have been interested in the athletes who come from the Ukraine. Many of the Olympic medalists from the former Soviet Union have been Ukrainian. They have had a lot of track and field athletes and figure skaters.

Actually, in the former USSR and other communist countries , sports was very important as for the regime it was a way to give the local population something to be proud of. A thing that they could say "I am proud of being from the Soviet Union!". Hence why the governments in communist countries used to invest very heavily in sports, many clubs were government-paid and the sportsmen often got time off from army duty to perform in sports.

I am a big soccer fan, and if you go through the names of local soccer clubs you can still see many clubs that used to be sponsored by their local government. Clubs named Dynamo or Dinamo used to be tied to the police, clubs named Lokomotiv usually were tied to the railway company, clubs named CSKA usually were connected to the army (CSKA = Central Sports Klub Army). Only in Romania it was different, with Steaua being the army club.

Some examples of succesful clubs tied to the communist regimes:
Dynamo Dresden (East Germany)
Dynamo Berlin (East Germany)
Dinamo Moscow (Russia)
Dinamo Minsk (Belarus)
Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia)
CSKA Moscow (Russia)
CSKA Kiev (Ukraine)
Dinamo Kiev (Ukraine)
Lokomotiv Moscow (Russia)
Steaua Bucharest (Romania)
Dinamo Bucharest (Romania)

The exceptions used to be clubs like Spartak Moscow and Union Berlin who had no ties to the government and often were considered "people's clubs". They were often very popular because supporting them was like protesting against the communist government. Here in Berlin, the rivalry between Union and the police-owned Dynamo Berlin is still very strong. Note: Dynamo was very corrupt as the police made sure the referees helped Dynamo winning trophies in case they could not do it themselves, this obviously made the hatred between Union and Dynamo even stronger.

I've always found it fascinating that blokes will marry a Ukrainian woman. I mean, it's such a difference in societies ! ! But I find the accent quite sexy ....

I used to work beside a girl who came from Ukraine, although she was originally from Russia.
I'm interested in every country's geography and history and I enjoyed speaking to her.

I think people in Western Europe have very easily gotten the idea about "different culture" without realising how much we have in common with Eastern Europe. I lived in the Middle East and even though I found integration not hard at all, THAT was different culture. Eastern Europe has some different accents but it is not that different from Western Europe, anyway not the current generation of people who grew up past the communist era. I worked with many Czechs and Poles and a few Russians and did not notice much differences with the average Irish, British or German.

And why not marry a Ukrainian? First of all love just happens to you and knows no citizenship restrictions. Second of all, have you looked at the average Slavic woman? Drop dead gorgeous! 8)

Once a girl from Scotland has told me that I had no accent at all and my pronunciation was very similar to Scottish  It was a long time ago, and it's a pity that I could have no practice in speaking. Speaking English is different from Slavic languages, even my vocal chords noticed that! :)

Even with my popup blocker on, that dating advertisement is still on top of this topic... "Find your Ukrainian date now - browse photos - UkrainianDate.com" ... And it sounds tempting I must say

Is this sort of advertising how WP's server rental costs are being paid for? :)
