I don’t like really plain unemotional pop stuff. I only like music that has a strong mood and atmosphere to it. Seems most people don’t like that kind of thing as much as I do.

Nobody I know likes the music i do. I think being on my own a great deal in the past I didn't have others' tastes to emulate, so I just developed my own tastes, enjoyed what I liked to listen to, rather than what I should listen to, according to the majority. I keep my music a secret almost, listening on headphones, though when I lived on my own the house had a cellar where I would freely listen on speakers.. Now I'm married, it's different. Once I was brave enough to listen to it on speakers, but when my missus came home early, I found myself acting as though I were listening to a porn tape soundtrack, hastily switiching it off, trying to avoid embarrassment. At university, someone even went as far as to call my taste in music "weird", but I didn't particularly care.

I think that on the whole if you like it, like it, dont't let anyone else tell you it's rubbish, just because it's not their thing. Also, if you don't care for their music, be honest but respectful, say it's not your cup of tea.

I know the music I like is not the most popular one today (some renaissance´s composers...), and I don't expect other people love it as I do. My wife likes it, sometimes. I use headphones and listen in my iPod or PC mostly.

-> But I can't listen a lot of kind of musics... nowaday's popular musics makes my brain stressed, drives me crazy! I have to use earplugs if someone listen to it loudly! And frequently the music infects my mind and keep playing until I "clean up" with some other music... like a mind virus!

I'd love to know what kind of music you like.

@ericksonlk - I like all kinds of music to varying degrees, but the ones I like in particular, in no particular order:

50s/60s pop
Hammond organ music
Swing
Production/Library music
Moog synthesizer
30s dance bands
Avante Garde/musique concrete
Easy-listening

There! I've admitted it! :)

*laugh* That's an awesome list... with the exception of easy listening, that's a good chunk of my music tastes - since you like Moog and 30's dance bands, I'm guessing you also listen to Raymond Scott? What exactly are you meaning by production/library music, if I may ask?

My friends have somewhat similar tastes in music, but not really.
A lot of them stick to rock music, which I like but is not my favorite genre.
Some listen to a lot of country, which is not my favorite genre by far.
I only know a few people who like hip hop and techno like I do. :)

Funny you should say that, by looking at your avatar and you being from Texas, my first thoughts were you being a country fan.

I like Metal, Rock, Classical, Folk, and some EBM or electronica (and I don't mind some hip hop either, but that only includes Atmosphere, Immortal Technique, and other underground rappers). My friends have different taste than me, and that doesn't really bother me to much.

They are just missing out :P
