The meeting is at the house of a psychologist who learns about the mind, not a psychiatrist who treats people. I think she has Aspergers, but I believe she welcomes all people from the autistic spectrum. You can call to find out, but you don't have to be an Aspie to attend.

Hello, I have always been extremely anxious about social events so it occured to me that a gathering of aspies could be something I cant imagine or visualise at all.
Is it ironic for a group of people with a social interaction problem to want to socialise together?

Anyway, I live precisiely 5,189.29 miles from Los Angeles so I probably will not attend but good luck with it anyway. :P

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it either. I'd have (door to door) a 2266.38 mile drive.

I live in Orange County, and I'm not interested in participating in a psychology experiment or a sales seminar.

Thank you, but no.

Sorry about the confusion in semantics of the terms psychology versus philosophy. She is not a psychologist by trade, but as a degree. In other words, rather than a Ph.D, she has a Psy.D instead. She is an Aspie member on the website MeetUp.com like me. That is how I know about it. A non-Aspie friend of mine went to a gathering today for computer nerds. Nobody gets experimented on or sold to, as you seem concerned about. I wanted to tell people on this site because not many have signed up to go. I want to meet as many Aspies as I can, even though I have never met one outside of myself.

Dr. Marjorie Toomim, Ph.D., ran the "Biofeedback Institute of Los Angeles," and according to her website, she claimed to treat chronic pain. If that's not using her degree for trade, then someone has changed the definition.

That is, until she died on January 18, 2005. How has she been communicating with you for the past 3-1/2 years?

Also, she apparently never published her approach to migraine suppression in any peer-reviewed scientific journals. This is typical of people who want only to make money from their methods, rather than advance the causes of science and medicine.

I've heard that one before, from every person who sells Amway, hands out religious tracts door-to-door, or who tells me that I should "... just talk to the nice doctor and have an open mind."

I would go, but I live all the way on the other side of the country. And I'm not exactly willing to travel all the way to California just for a social gathering of Aspies. Thanks for the invite, though. :)

I'd have to cross a third of the Atlantic, then cross the entire U.S.

Count me out

:D

I'm sorry that I did not make myself clear. The facilitator for Sunday's social meet has a Psy.D instead of a Ph.D like Dr. Toomim -- whoever that is. Anyway, none of my friends that have gone to MeetUp gatherings have reported any experimenting or selling. It's just an ingenius website designed to network with like-minded people. If you are into contacting dead people instead of meeting Aspies, look at http://ouijaboard.meetup.com/ to find out a meeting near you.

Obviously, you haven't clicked on any of the links in my signature.

There is no such thing as communicating with the dead.

Well I'm not sure what they do with the ouija board there, that link just came up with some others when I did a search on MeetUp.com under "seance."

By the way, how did you quote me twice in the same post, on your last comment?
