Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it either. I'd have (door to door) a 2266.38 mile drive.

The website allows you to enter your zip code to find one near you.

Hello, I have always been extremely anxious about social events so it occured to me that a gathering of aspies could be something I cant imagine or visualise at all.
Is it ironic for a group of people with a social interaction problem to want to socialise together?

Anyway, I live precisiely 5,189.29 miles from Los Angeles so I probably will not attend but good luck with it anyway. :P

Patrick -
You can copy and paste in the reply box, and you can edit your posts. Double, triple, and quadruple posts are generally frowned upon in this type of forum. The easy way to get multiple posts quoted is to click quote, copy everything in the window that comes up, back up, click quote again, paste the original quote either at the begining or end, copy everything, repeat as desired, and add your comments.

Also, I am well aware of the zip code function of meetup, I am a member of a few groups in this area, and periodically look up groups on other interests.

Do you think that all gatherings from MeetUp.com are shady and that Mr. Kc8ufv is out of his mind when he indulges in such social events? A friend of mine who went Tuesday to the meeting for computer programmers loved it. Ask me after Sunday and I will let you know if I have been cheated out of my time.

The way meetup.com works is they charge the organizers of the various groups a small fee basically to cover the costs of running the site. At one time (in the early days of the site) there was no fee, and it was a little more dificult to look some things up. The groups are all basically self-organized, and now, if there is no group in the area, they will still track people who are interested in various topics and willing to help start a group. IIRC, they do have a minimum number of people required to get togeather to start the group. With this, they actually have free-form comments so you can tell what the person's interests really are in the group. For example, a search for Japanese will frequently come up with people interested in the language, travel, Anime/Manga, and culture. Messaging can be handled directly through the site, and that messaging can be forwarded to your e-mail, if you wish. It's actually a really neat site, and a great way to work on socializing. You may even find a Group of individuals interested in your obsession, as they have MANY different interests on the site.
