Cops Raid Mayor's Home, Shoot His Dogs

What a horrible tragedy...

According to the Washington Post, police didn't have a no knock warrant so the raid was illegal.

No-knock warrants should never be legal anyway. I hate how this country is becoming a police state.

At least he didn't get tazered 19 times.

I read that this morning in my local paper.

It's just sad that the Mayor of a city doesn't even get respect from his local police......

Why did they raid the mayor's place at all?


And shoot the dogs?

Poor dogs

Were they big Doberman Pinscher guard dogs or the kind of dog you can carry around? In any case, I don't see how shooting and killing mayoral pooches could have been appropriate.

Police call people "civilians" now.

Are we citizens or civilians?

Cops and us are all supposed to be citizens, but by putting a label like "civilian" on us they get one step closer to the Milgram experiment (which should be required study for EVERY COP before they get a badge.)

I agree with you there. There's no better way to weed out a potentially dirty cop before he sees active duty.

Actually, in court testimony, it is standard practice for police to refer to us as 'subjects'... as in subjects to the authority of a soveriegn or king.



They were labrador retrievers, and according to the report, at least one of them was shot while walking away from the police.

When the Mayor identified himself, the police didn't believe him, and handcuffed him in his boxer shorts.

Labradors are not a vicious breed. Were they trained guard dogs or just family pets? Boy, when PETA hears about this ...

It matters how you treat your dog, not what breed it is. One single breed cannot be vicious.
Anyway, the police definitly did something illegal, first they raided a house without permission, then mindlessly murdered two dogs that did nothing wrong.
Good cops exist, but there has to be legal action taken against those cops.

One of these days, someone who seriously hates the way

The uglier thing I've heard about how some police view the world, is that their are two kinds of people, other cops and suspects. "Civilians" is actually usually used to refer to non-criminal victims of crime, and is somewhat synonymous with "taxpayers" in the police lexicon. Both tend to be more of an inner city thing, where in many drug murders the victim has a longer sheet than the perpetrator. An actual innocent victim is referred to as a civilian or taxpayer, at least in Baltimore circa 1990.

This does sound like a horribly misguided raid though, all this for pot? This is the sort of thing that really argues for decriminalization, the anti-drug boys are just out of control. I understand the need for no-knock warrants when the raid is on say, a cocaine or heroin stash house under armed guard, but this raid was undertaken because someone else randomly mailed weed to the mayor. Totally asinine, and it's going to cost whoever ordered it, the PR nightmare alone will see to that.
