Do you self injure yourself? Why do you do it?

Occasionally. It reels in the scattered senses you get when you're in extreme overload, and works quickly (but temporarily). Generally most other methods of dealing with overload are better; but if I need to cope NOW... well, sometimes there's no alternative. Frequency is maybe once every six months or so.

BTW, just a caution when discussing this topic: You do NOT want to get specific or detailed. If somebody has a self-injury habit, such specific descriptions will make them think of it, which might lead to them hurting themselves unnecessarily. So be kind to those who are easily triggered, and keep it general.

It started when I was very young, probably as early as 9-10 years old. I would punch my thighs when I became angry, frustrated, or upset because it relieved the tension. Years later, now 22, I have found other devices to use to cope with the emotional hurricane blowing around inside my skull. Then again, I am currently unmedicated, so if I can make it to the appointment on the 22nd of the 10th month of the year 2008, then I might improve. Best wishes to you.

I did it pretty often as a kid. Nowadays I rarely do it, only when I'm really super upset.

am self injure a lot,for different reasons,it happens during meltdowns/shutdowns,it's sensory seeking-am do not feel any pain on outside of body [only deeper inside migraine,tn,stomach type pain]-self injury gives a type of feeling [pressure].
It's to communicate-if am unable to communicate using the laptop or makaton and have something in head but cant get it out,am end up self injuring as family/staff know this only happen when something is bad and will try and work out what it could be.
sometimes am self injure because am do not understand what is going on,maybe getting too much information or sensory overload etc.
Am have always self injured, and have had a lot of different fractures over the years,am might use others to SI self if am desperate,or other objects, medication helped a lot with that side.
Am get restrained and have a lot of pressure given if am self injure, and staff have a special rucksack full of stuff that helps when am SI or meltdown/shutdown etc including cushions and pillows, they take it everytime they take am out.

I don't injure myself. I did attempt suicide once but the purpose was to escape not to injure myself. I don't get meltdowns and I don't enjoy pain so there's no reason to self-injure.

No, I don't. But if I feel I'm going to faint I bite my fingers and pinch my cheeks, just for clearing my mind, something like that. No serious injuries, never.

Feeling my pain topic

Sometimes I injure myself as part of a stim and do not realize this until much later, like a hangover.

Self injury is sad, but I do not think it is something we want to do, but it does happen. :(

Banging my head against walls, doors etc.
I used to cut myself it relieved the pain
I used to hit my hands against stuff the physical pain dulled the mental pain.

I've cut a couple of times. During meltdowns I bite myself and/or hit things really hard.

Through meltdowns, yes, but also through walking into walls, tripping over coffee tables, bumping my head on opened cupboard doors, and dropping things on my feet.
