I came across that book the other day while searching for books on Aspergers. (They had disappointingly little...especially people who suffer from the disorder themselves) I was quite thrilled to see a book like yours. Couldn’t afford to purchase it then but I did read through it. Hope to go back and get it soon though.
Sadly none of those locations are anywhere near me.

I feel bad to say I have bought your book, but not read it yet. I collect books by autistic people, and the collecting and organizing of them has come to be more my interest than the reading at times. But now I will actually open it up and read it this time.
I can see it right over on my bookshelf on the second row of books by autistic people, it is a hardback with a light bluish spine. It is in between Chammi Rajapatirana's book The Vial (thin book with a brown cover with black spiral binding, unusual paper inside with a neat texture and off-white color), and Katja Rohde's book Ich Igelkind: Botschaften aus einer autistischen Welt. (hardcover, orange and black, average size, the writing falling the opposite direction from what I consider normal because it is German -- the title, which I love the first part of, is "I, the hedgehog-child", and then the subtitle means "Messages from an autistic world"). Hedgehog-child is a great word -- I don't know enough German to know if it literally means that or if it is an idiom for something else.
At any rate, I'll get to doing something beyond endlessly organizing the position of your book someday, I promise, but at least hopefully you've gotten the money from my buying it if not yet a reader.

I will have at least one NY city date. . . check the blog in a month or so when we've added the next batch
I have seen your book in a couple stores and skimmed it. I came to the part where you look at the AS criteria and realize you have it. I don't know if you got a diagnoses diagnoses or not. Being told by a doctor you it isn't a official diagnosis.
I see you are coming to Portland. I feel so happy that you are and it's in the evening instead of during the day or morning because I work that day.
Spokane Girl, you asked about me and diagnosis . . . did you know about the new TMS studies being conducted by Alvaro Pascual Leone of Harvard Medical School? I've been working with his team in a research collaboration that's showing remarkable promise. I've actually done some of the first studies that identify autistic brains via scientific measurement, as opposed to interpretation of test results.
The idea being explored is that we can use powerful magnetic fields to induce tiny electrical currents in the brain, thereby altering the way we think. The early results show a lot of promise in remediating certain undesirable traits of Asperger's. Specifically, there seems to be the potential to increase "emotional intelligence," something we are weak in.
The TMS acts on target areas that are less than 1% of the total brain mass. So it's very focused.
Here are some blog essays you might find interesting:

http://jerobison.blogspot.com/2008/05/an...f-tms.html
http://jerobison.blogspot.com/2008/05/vi...tions.html
This is fascinating stuff. . . it offers the promise of helping us improve areas of our brains that are weak, while leaving our strengths and our essential being unchanged.
So I'll see you in Portland in a few weeks!
