Never let anyone be your payee. That is the worst.
A friend had $350,000 inheritance which was not counted against her. Her mother convinced her to sign a paper making someone her trustee with a revokable trust. When she tried to revoke the trust, the mother tried to get her committed because she was "crazy." When that failed the mom went a bit bonkers because she has spent the capitol. There is nothing left of her trust fund.
It is in court now, but often trustees do in fact spend the capitol thinking that the disabed person will never ask for itbecause the laws are set up so they generally cannot have it. So when they do, uhhhhhhhhhhh
