For me it's when someone wants something from me and, instead of trying to negotiate it with me or ask for it as a favor, they try to guilt-trip me into it or use some other form of manipulation to get me to do it without it costing them anything

Eg: I used to have a friend who would say that since I had a car and she didn't, it was the socially acceptable thing that I had to collect her and drop her home each time we went out and that it was my social obligation to ride her everywhere if we went out together. I would've gladly driven her everywhere if she'd been willing to acknowledge it as a favor and eased my life in some way to compensate for the extra work and gas.

Eg: If someone wants to go to the beach and needs company and I don't feel like going to the beach, instead of asking me to please accompany them, they say something like "on a day like today, everyone goes to the beach!! You have to be stupid not to go to the beach!" When people attack my personality in order to get me to do something, or tell me everyone else does different from me and therefore something's wrong with me, I go berserk.

While it sometimes surprises me that a person will ask me for a favor, it never ceases to amaze me that they also expect me to fulfill their request, and that they then become upset when I turn them down.

These people seem to feel some false sense of entitlement. So what if I have something that they don't? This fact alone does not entitle them to a share of it. Just because I have the money they want for the down-payment on a new car, it does not mean that I am obligated in any way to give it to them.

And this issue about social obligation? Ever hear of 'Socialism'? It's a political system in which your ownership of property and wealth is controlled by others in the interest of 'fairness' to all. This control is by the collective community, rather than by individuals such as yourself. Thus, 'Social Obligation' means that other people decide how much of your hard-earned wages and personal property will be given to other people who did nothing to earn them.

Now, I don't know what country you live in, but if it's America, the next time some slacker declares that you are socially obligated to share your wealth, tell them that the same 'social obligation' requires them to earn their share of anything you own.

If they still insist on a free handout, then direct them to the nearest public welfare office or homeless mission.

Fnord, I mean people who don't feel a sense of entitlement but who pretend to believe they're entitled in order to get what they want without having to give anything in return. They don't think they're entitled - they hope that I will buy the lie and that I will think they're entitled. Those anger me the most.

Someone trying to talk to me whilst I am really watching a TV program or movie, or when my attention is on the computer, I can't continue, I have to stop what I am doing for them to finish talking

I understand ... we're not referring to exactly the same behavior, but to different behaviors that look pretty much the same.

Let me put it this way: The Socialist - a subjectively idealistic reformer who thinks that he can cure all the world's illnesses and inequities if only he can take the money from the person that has earned it, and then give it to the person that has never done anything to earn it, while giving no money of his own - is especially repugnant to me.

I agree entirely. Especially while watching a tv show, they yak yak yak and before you know it, you missed the only good show on that night.

Can this not be a 'let's whine about socialism' thread? Because seriously, nothing practiced today even comes close to actual socialism, so people are just dissing a misrepresentation of a decent concept. Fnord I understand you're angry but let's please not make a big deal out of this.

Things that piss me off: busywork, my roommate staying up until six in the morning talking super loud on her friggin' webcam, squealing brakes and people pretending to be experts on things when they have no idea what the hell they are talking about (like the guy in my psych class who insists schizophrenia is a result of poor parenting).

Excuse me, but this thread is entitled "What angers you the most?", and Socialism is what angers me the most, while second place is reserved for smarmy condescendency.

I hate it when things are decided a certain way because imformation is missing or misconstrued.

What angers me most is any sort of injustice, whether it be an injustice to people, or an injustice to the truth.

What drives me crazy about this is that the person will almost invariably pause in speaking for long enough for me to figure he is done. Just as I turn my attention back to the book or computer, or un-pause the movie, he'll start up talking again.

I won't discuss what really angers me most in the world, but on a similar line-of-peevishness:

I am infuriated by people who bump into me (don't touch me!) and then pet my shoulder (for god's sake, don't touch me!) as they apologize for bumping into me.

That sounds more like they are trying to keep you from being an introverted mouse than trying to guilt you into taking them to the beach

I wasn't trying to condescend to you. I think you understand exactly what you're talking about. I just saw that you had repeated your thing about it twice and I thought it was a little much.

Added to my list: people thinking I'm being condescending to them and people being insulted when I mean no insult. 8O I don't want to get in a fight with you, it actually makes me feel like sh*t that I insulted you that much.

EDIT: Oh, and child abuse. Actually that's the thing that angers me most in the world.
