Ok, poll here, what is the coolest branch of philosophy? Please include thoughts on why the branch is so cool, or you can even try to intellectually coerce others to agree with you! (yes, even subjective preferences are things I could try to debate) Just post and vote!

Hopefully the poll is alright, setting up categories according to what exists and what people will likely want is difficult, so expect a bit of lameness/imperfection can seep in somewhere. Hopefully it will be functional.

I voted political, but I could go for epistemology or logic too.

Anyone who votes for metaphysics or existential is a post-modernist! :P

I voted 'Logic', but 'Ethics' is a close second.

Metaphysics is relatively legit I thought as all it has to do with is cosmology, causality, and some stuff on ontology(the last being more related to phenomenology I think). Existential is somewhat post-modernist, however, postmodernism is in some ways an epistemic philosophy as it relates to the nature of truth.

Metaphysics: I believe this would be the branch of philosophy as a first choice, I find this quite interesting.

Epistemology: This one also, as I would tend to question the exact value of our knowledge or the justification of it and questioning the existence of an absolute truth, I think my position would be that of uncertainty.

It was intended more as a general slur or term of abuse than a serious accusation.

The art of using reason well in our inquiries after truth, and the communication of it to others.

Logic because it has a rational approach to logic.

Logic, specifically formal logic

It serves as the 'skeleton' of any proof; you still have to add flesh and blood to them, but studying formal logic clarifies your thought a lot.

Ethics, probably followed by Logic and Religion tied for second.

The reason that Ethics beats out Logic and Religion is that the latter two can be used to justify countless atrocities. One could use logic to justify any particular genocide (including the Holocaust), for example, while Religion has sparked countless "holy" wars over the centuries...

I chose ethics because I hold to my personal moral code a whole lot more readily than others do. If I make a promise I will nearly always keep it, I hate hypocrisy, and I never judge people based on outward appearance alone. Anytime that I do slip up causes me significant depression for a while...

The other thing I hold to is the concept of non-interference. If someone asks me to leave, I will generally respect their wishes and do so.

Ethics, Logic and political philosophy interest me most.
