This is a subject somewhat related to online gaming, but I'm trying to figure out what brand my dad's router is. I don't know whether it's WiFi or just wireless (is there a difference? I still don't know.), but somehow in order to get my game system online I might have to register on the manufacturer's site.....on my dad's computer! Really, he can get pretty upset if I use it but I might as well ask him.....

Wifi and wireless mean the same thing in this context. Why would you need to register on the manufacturers site? That seems odd.

Usually to play games you won't need to change anything with the router. If you want to serve as a host you may need to set it up to allow certain ports or direct things to your computer.

What are you trying to do and what do they say you need?
