Vista 64 bit w/sp1

Every time I check the firewall, it's off. I'll turn it on and Windows will tell me everything's okay but later on, I'll check it again and it's off.

Also, while I'm at it; how do I get Vista to quit asking me permission do do something? Whenever I go to clean the C: drive or do anything, it'll ask me for permission even though I'm the administrator.

To the later part...

Control Panel - Security Center (in classic mode atleast) - Other security settings - User Account Control

Turn it off.

I beleive that will stop Vista from asking for permission for everything.

If not, google it, i think theres a reg hack that disables it. I not sure if u used the reg hack but i disabled it when i got my new laptop and cant even remember what it looked like.

As for the firewall.... are you running another firewall on that computer?

not really sure. It came with Norton pre loaded so it might have a built in firewall. I'll check.

Yes, Norton has its own firewall.

Why not just use a hardware firewall instead?
