I always thought the Beatles was like a cage he was trapped in, with the other more pop-orientated guys (especially McCartney, whom I kinda loathe) standing in the way of Lennon to fully develop more masterpieces. Solo he has no boundaries anymore, resulting in some genius albums. With the Beatles, most quality stuff they wrote was from Lennon but he seemed to be a limited in fully being the artist he could be, trapped in a concept or in a band where he could not really stand out. But well, as I said, I think the Beatles are highly overrated, mainly because the songs written by McCartney (with a few exceptions) dont move me at all. I also think McCartneys voice is quite boring, especially compared to Lennon and to lesser extent George Harrisson. The two most talented ones were the first to die.
