USGS survey - oil, natural gas, and other natural resources

I just found out about this site today and, it looks like something I could spend weeks reading - nothing really centralized or compiled in there that I see yet at least.

BTW, if anyone else has some good articles and statistics on this, regarding oil and natural gas in the U.S., I'd like to start and open and candid thread with this. I do know that congress also had two energy surveys done, one by Nancy Pelosi and another headed by a Republican (who I remember being on the Laura Ingraham show but I can't remember the guy's name) - those would both be good contributions as well if someone could find them. Point being though, I'd rather we study the facts than go ad hominem and - I'll gladly admit, I know what I've heard from people but haven't had the chance to really study the numbers well enough to come to any sort of base-line conclusion yet.

The only thing we have are very rough estimates. Most of the data is in the hands of oil companies that have explored areas they have leases on - and they tend to keep that close to the vest. Many areas are unexplored, and the ability to extract depends on prices and technology.

The Oil Drum is one area where there is a lot of discussion on this topic. While many people there tend to be pessimistic, if you are looking for a technical discussion of energy supplies, that is one good place to go.
