Such knowledge of the gnome is unable to be known.

It's just silly to debate these things.

We all know God exists!

Depends which God, my God exists but your God does not. Understand? Don't make me declare war on you over this, just accept my God.

No we don't. The author's point was to illustrate the absurdity of theists requiring atheists to prove a negative.

I don't even know that you exist (any of you). Maybe you're all just software.

I am the result of the remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent within the recursive algorithm on which this website is based.

Prove I do not exist. ;)

And so the default position, the only one that accounts for all angles and requires zero stretch of the imagination and is 100% consistent with what we actually know about reality:

"You are lying"

Why can we not apply these same critical thinking skills to religion?

-What's more likely, that a virgin gave birth to a child, or that some Jewish harlot lied about having sex? (Remember that thing about unmarried women having sex and being killed because of it?)

-What's more likely, that fourteen or more men claim to have divine knowledge about this child many years after his death, or that some power-hungry perhaps non-existant cult leader decided to fabricate ficitious dogma to control the minds of the masses?

-What's more likely, that the universe and the world as we know it formed by purely naturalistic means that we understand and by methods we can prove exist - or that some unexplainable cosmic being who's beyond time and space poofed the universe and us into existence for the sheer purpose of testing our souls for cosmic loyalty in a world where we can't even prove he exists.

what if he needs to test them to find the perfect immortal soul to form his ultimate holy army to finally take down zeus in a battle royale for all eternity.

he'd need the most rabid, loyal, violent, blind followers possible.

Because the visible gnome in my bathroom says so. Picture evidence:

Fun fact. I used this picture for my joke campaign to become the treasurer of the local student chapter of AIChE.

I did not win.
