"Political parties are like magnets; they attract some and repel others"

Politics is the study of power.
Economics is the study of how the world runs (ie resources).

I think I'm borrowing this definition from my political science professor from a couple of years ago, but politics is basically the process for determining who should benefit from scarce resources and by what means; different groups try to gain influence to control the most resources, directly or indirectly.

Another, more cynical definition is politics is a game to earn ego points and to keep oneself from becoming too bored.

I always thought thats what economics is.

Maybe they are both inter-twined.

So What Does Politics Mean to You? It is very important.

How Do You See Politics in Your Life? I am a member of a political party.

What Makes Politics, Politics? Impossible to say.

How Does Politics Affect Your Life? If it wasn't for the welfare state, started by liberal politicians, I would be dead by now.

Add Anymore Ideals You have on Politics too. Left Wing, Libertarian Socialist.[/b]

Well if you're going to do it, use the best.

To quote myself: "Politics is an extension of war by another means."

So What Does Politics Mean to You? A human attempt at maintaining a status quo order.

How Do You See Politics in Your Life? As an expression of right and free will.

What Makes Politics, Politics? People have different ideas and ideals.

Add Anymore Ideals You have on Politics too: I am a semi-Neocornucopian liberalist. Essentially what that means is that I believe in a system that is not yet possible to achieve yet but we are able to plan for. It is quite complex.

To me politics is all about Power.
That power can be derived from four possible sources:
1.Tact
2.Money
3.Goodwill
4.Ancestry (Of course, this is no longer a source of political power in most civilized countries)

From there, politics is not only about control, but conflict and trade, those two great sources of money, which you can then use to continue to fuel your political career.
However, conflict is best ignored when you aren't provoked to attack. If another country hasn't done you or one of your allies any harm, or if it isn't infringing upon the rights of a smaller nation, you leave it alone.
So then you can lose and gain money through trade, and it all works out.

Overall, politics doesn't have one particular definition, but I'd say that politics is all about different systems and the way they work, about gaining and having the power to test your ethics as a leader and to put your personal beliefs into practice.

Politics is a hugely complex system based on theories of human behavior in groups, that I don't even begin to understand.... that's why you don't see my face in this forum too often.

politics is merely a means to keep society's worst liars, cheats and schemers locked away in parliament, so that the rest of us can get on with the job of running the country :)

See why politicians are so often associated with horse's arses. Experience the hot air, useless noise, and stink!
