I was diagnosed with AS when I was 13.

I had no idea what my specialist was talking about because I was coping with bullying (including from two teachers who believed bullying was a good thing), raging hormones, and the passing of my dad who passed the day after I turned 12.

I was diagnosed in the Mid-1990s in my mid 30s. Back at this time, recognizing High Fuctioning Autism was considered "ahead of the curve."

Not with Aspergers.

But with autism around age 3 or 4, 1964 or 1965

April 2018: Level 2 Classic Autism (not Aspergers or HFA)

It was the first time I requested an assessment, so I can't fault anyone.

Prior to that I was DX: Mutism, CPTSD, GAD, MDD, etc.

After it I was also DX with Combined-Type ADHD.

I was diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (Mild) at age 64 in 2019. However, the written Psychological Evaluation that documented my diagnosis included the observation that I also displayed many of the qualities of what was previously known as Asperger's Syndrome.

When I was about 53. Late diagnosis. Looking back through my life, it explains a lot.
