According to my mom I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was 3.5 years old, but I was first classified as having Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), then I was reclassified as having Aspergers.

It's common for youngsters to have PDD-NOS as a tentative diagnosis if they aren't clearly of the Kanner's make, and development will show which label fits them better.

I actually haven't been diagnosed with AS; I was offered to have the Autistic Disorder one changed to AS, but I declined. The psychiatrist who gave me the AD one knew far more about me outside of a professional setting than the psychologist I saw, who assumed that how I am with professionals is how I am with others (I'm aloof to others).

I know there's not too much difference between HFA and AS, but Kanner's fits my early developmental history perfectly, and it also fits how I am now, just of the "mild" to "moderate" make depending on where I am at the time. I like accuracy.

O, and to answer the question: 2007 at 25. Yes, quite late for HFA, but not unheard of.

SpongeBobRocksMao, I was diagnosed around 2002 specifically, one could say late in life as, I was already outside of the educational system and a great many opportunities had passed me by.Still, I've learned a great deal since that time though

Professionally diagnosed at age 17.
A good diagnosis, as in it felt actually okay to get it. Not tragic at all - something I could research and understand - not feel bad about.

I was diagnosed with AS just a couple months ago. I'm 27. When I was about 5, my pediatrician diagnosed me with ADD, and wanted me to see a specialist, but my parents couldn't afford it.

Now, to those /b/tards around here, maybe I should change my avi from my current 40kun/chan to a blue-eyed Honeychan that I had on another site, where the normal brown-eyed Honey-chan is the default avi.

in spring/summer 2004, when I was 11. I was told pretty much straight away, I remember the night I was told aswell, I was watching a documentary about ASDs and when it finished my mum told me, it was quite exciting actually, because it was a completely knew idea and I was discovering loads about myself.

April (I think) of 2002, when I was 18

Would've been nice to have been diagnosed earlier in high school instead of the final semester when I was having unbelievable emotional and mental breakdowns.

My high school counselor who recommended the diagnosis though took four years of me crying to her all the time before the idea came to her I may have AS.

I was diagnosed at a really young age - especially compared to a lot of the other ages of diagnosis I've seen postd here.

What is the youngest possible age you can realistically get diagnosed at?

I was diagnosed this year, on my twentysecond birthday, so I'm still quite new to the aspie community :)
