As my name indicates, I'm definitely a hockey fan.

she was so embarassed when i cheered for them to "kill each other"
lol :P

A little violence is a good thing, I grew up playing hockey, and had my share of fistfights.
Your not the first girl I have heard who love's a good brawl during a game, I have seen 80
year old granny's screaming for blood, hehe

This is very interesting.

Hockey was one of the few team sports I could play well and enjoy successfully.
You'd technically call it "field hockey" in the states though, but we call it "hockey". This has been true with friends and family members (some like ice and roller-hockey too).

I have a theory as to why we like it: the position that the stick is held means that the head is angled towards the ball. Hence the player's head is usually angled downwards. You only glance up occasionally to pass the ball. The focus is more on the ball.

I've noticed that there isn't as much eye contact in Hockey in all its forms, as there is in some other sports.

All tackling is done in a controlled way with the sticks themselves: contact with the player's body is frowned upon.

Compare that to soccer, American football or rugby, where players meet each other head on and intimidate each other directly with eye-contact and threat displays. More physical contact is encouraged too. I've always hated physical contact sports.

I only went to one hockey game, back when the seats were cheap. Edmonton Oilers vs. Chicago Blackhawks in Nov, 1995 or something. The game was boring with a score of 0-0. Not even a fight. Oh well.

I personally enjoy reading up on hockey stats though.

I'm a SJ Sharks fan. I'm really happy with how they're doing this season. I have season tickets but my family shares them with three other families, so I will get to go to about 9 or 10 games, plus hopefully some playoff games too.

Ice: like it a lot (Nashville Predators fan)

Field: really couldn't care less.
