Quote:
"They say there are too many horses left on the range, and that they need to gather them all the time," said Jerry Reynoldson of the Wild Horse Adoption Association. "But there are only 30,000 left in the wild, and they're spread over 10 states. In Nevada alone, the BLM controls 47 million acres. But the ranchers control economic forces and pay lobbyists in Washington, so they give the horses short shrift and convince the authorities that they need to be taken off the land."

Why do people only care about cute animals in general? If they wanted to kill off rats or pigeons not so many would complain

So fast-food restaurants and dog-food companies get a cheap source of meat.

Big Fat Hairy Deal!

Unfortunately the horse lobby has made it illegal to slaughter horses for human consumption in the US. In other countries, eating horse is thought to be quite fine, as it is a use of the meat.

Fine ... fine ... so Mexican restaurants and dog-food companies get a cheap source of meat.

Either way, it's neither a tragedy or a travesty. Animals are meat. Meat is food. Food should be eaten.

After 600 or so years floating around the Americas, shouldn't they be considered part of the environment?
