The other day one of mates said to me "Your trainers look naff" should I take this as a personal insult or not? Because I was very offended by what he said to me. He also said my leahter jacket was out of fashion once.

Dont take any notice. Its not so much your clothes but how how you hold yourself. Like your demeanour that makes you cool.
Every one has different fashion taste. What one person likes Another hates.

Are you sure they're your mates? I would have taken it as a personal insult (because he's essentially critisizing your coice of footwear). Depending on the exact situation etc., I would have tried to have laughed it off or make a further joke about it; I don't know what though - maybe just laugh and say, 'yeah, I know' and then maybe make up some excuse as to why you chose those ones. This would have shown (truthfully or otherwise) that you were aware they were 'naff' (even though the 'naffness' would be in the eye of the beholder) and that you had little choice in the matter (and thus your sense of style is not as bad as it appears to them).

One of my ex friends said to me once when I was 12 and on that day I just brought some new trainers. Well he said "Those shoes are like girl trainers". I wasn't to amused by that comment either.

Dont bother with people when they talk about how your cloth isnt fashion.... remember that they probably are the kind of people who spend a lot of money on cloth they use for a few months then have to get new because "its not fashion anymore...." like they are worth listening to anyway...

You spend waaaaayyyy too much time listening what others have to say about you that isn't constructive.
I have a friend, my best friend who is constantly making light-hearted jabs at me. But I know he is kidding and doing it in a fun way.
If you have to questions the motives of acomment, then I would question the friendship itself.
Perhaps it's time to move on to newer, better friends.
