It seems all of the cable channels eventually become sad, bland shadows of their former selves.

It does show history, because as soon a a new film is made, it already becomes history!

I signed up for the History Channel back at the very beginning, as a mini-series about Charlemagne was among the very first programming. Unfortunately, they seem to have dumbed down for the sake of ratings since then, forgetting that they came into existence solely to show programs about HISTORY!! !

I think it all began when The History Channel started saturating their time with so many WWII documentaries that they earned the nickname "The Hitlery Channel".  Then it all went downhill from there.

 If anything could be further down the hill than Hitler, they managed to find it!

But how long History is no longer History? I remember after the 911 attacks we got Nostradamus documentaries.

Well that was some ace necromancy...

Still quite sad the topic itself is still relevant.
All the ancient aliens and paranormal s**t is the worst. That needs to go, it's actively trying to make the stupid people who'd watch that even more stupid.
I sometimes try to watch it just to laugh at it but I can't for long because I quickly get pissed off at all the ridiculous things those shows promote. Bloody hell.

Most people are NT and most NTs are stupid.

Notice for both those statements I said most not all.

Same reason the New Scientist is now owned by the Daily Mail.

We didn't have Sky TV when I was growing up, so didn't have the History channel, but I found this review of its decline interesting.

TLDR: they wanted more money
