It's a textural issue: I cannot stand having things in my mouth, nor can I stand having things put on my teeth that need to stay there. I have had it with the dentist. She was cleaning my teeth, and it hurt, and she goes "I'm sorry." No, you're not ****ing sorry. That pain? Guess what? It's probably another cavity you have to fill, thereby netting you more money. You wonder why I didn't go to the dentist for three f'ing years! It's because I can't stand your falsities.

I have had it! I get things stuck in my mouth, get told I have cavities, get them drilled, and all for what?! To walk around for the next 5 hours not being able to feel the right (or left, or both) side of my mouth, leading me to believe that I am sounding like an a$$hole with a speech impediment.

And THEN! THen you have the NERVE to ask me "how many times out of the WEEK do you brush?" What do you think I am?! A little kid? I brush twice a day. But guess what?! I can't stand the smell or the TASTE of toothpaste, so I do it as fast as I can. And then you wonder why my teeth are so bad?!

On top of that, you then tell me that you want to yank my wisdom teeth?! It's MY BODY, so I will do with it what I please!

I don't want to have my teeth filled; I want them to rot and fall out, because then (even though I'd have to wear dentures), guess what?! Providing I clean my dentures at night, I won't have to worry about going to the dentist!

Dentists are evil!

seconded.

I just find it too uh weird having a stranger poking around in my orifice, it's repulsive.

You can use baking powder mixed with water instead of toothpaste, just wet your brush then dip it in the baking powder - there'd be other substitutes too, toothpaste is a fairly recent invention. I also floss, as it keeps the dentist away.

And the cost! my god, it's daylight robbery.

That sounds like something even my 12 year old wouldn't write.

You sound whiney, and immature. There are ways to deal with uncomfortable situations, and if you think that letting your teeth rot out is going to be pain free...think again.

Not to mention, it isn't only your teeth that suffer when you have rotting teeth. Your over all health suffers, especially your heart.

I understand if you don't like going to a dentist, but it won't kill you, and if you don't like the pain, ask for them to freeze your mouth (oh right, you can't stand that either, because you look like a moron). Trust me, you'll look worse if you let your teeth rot out and have to have dentures.

Can you afford expensive ones? Cause the cheap ones look like crap, and will hurt your gums....alot.

Whatever.

I agree. I hate the dentist, but you get through it. It only takes about a half hour.

It's obviously a 'vent', duh. let them vent. besides this is the haven, people are entitled to supportive responses, not hectoring or patronising ones.

I have a really nice dentist. She will give me a prescription for 10 Klonopin (2mg) each year, and tell me to take one before I go to her office. Usually I will fall asleep during the cleaning or not even notice what is going on.

I rarely brush my teeth. Toothpaste annoys me too much, and I never understood why there isn't any unflavored toothpaste. Odd enough, I've only needed to get two minor cavities filled. Mouth wash is the answer!

I did get my wisdom teeth removed. It was painful for a while. If your wisdom teeth do hurt, I'd advise you to get them removed. Otherwise, they shouldn't be a problem.

Do you know what? I've always told people I hated the dentist but was never able to say properly why. People would just tell me 'oh no-one likes the dentist' but actually, I relate to everything you've said.
I don't like the texture of gloves and hands etc going in my mouth.. then the sound of the drill makes me physically sick.
and as for a seemingly simple thing like toothpaste... I'm very sensitive to it's taste.. to me, toothpaste feels like it burns my mouth.. it's actually quite painful. :-(

I hate them ebcause they ignore science. They are the ONLY form of medicine that uses ionzing radiation when NOTHING IS WRONG. As a profilactic measure!!

GOod gracious, that went out in the 50's.

THey lie when they say it is like standing in front of a microwave. That is a different kind of radiation and so is standing in the sun.

ANyone that ignorant of their own trade should not be allowed to practice.

THank goodness I found a very kind dentist who understands and treats me as I wish to be treated not as anyone mandates.

Most say hit the road Jack.

He does not.

I'm scared of doctors. I haven't been since I was a very young kid. So I will happily go to the dentist, otherwise my parents threaten to take me to the doctor. =p

The dentists always go on and on about how I'm the only kid that can go in there without complaining or saying a word. Truth is, I absolutely hate it. Especially there pointless small talk-- how am I supposed to be expected to respond when they've got their hands in my mouth, anyway?!

Mutanatia,
see a disability specialised dentist instead of a normal one,am go to one and she understands a lot about the needs of auties and aspies.
she books am into a private room on the day surgery ward at the local hospital for general anaesthetic if am need to have any work done such as fillings or root canal because of the risks [and torture] of keeping am awake, and she is also a very nice, patient dentist.

ask current dentist if they know of one could be referred to.
the one am go to is based at a small health centre, amongst doctors rather than at a proper dentist surgery.

I've only been to a dentist once, never again. Routing his way around my mouth, I was getting stressed and panicking... Just wanted him to leave me alone :(

Actually, most people don't like going to the dentist. But, I have seen what the lack of dental care has done to some of my family members, and I have chosen to endure my twice yearly cleanings. I mean for a half hour, I can stand it. I do use a toothpaste I can tolerate---let's be honest---some of it is gagging. Some of the posts here have offered some really good ideas like using alternative types of cleaning things---baking soda, etc. And I didn't know about the alternative type dentists for us on the spectrum. I actually quit the one dentist I had been going to for most of my life because I did get tired of being treated like a child with the lectures of brushing and flossing. And, he wanted to fill some natural pits in some of my teeth. The one I go to now doesn't bother me with those remarks. And my natural pits are doing fine. My advice is if you can't stand the dentist, please try to find one that you can live with. A half hour once or twice a year has to be a lot less uncomfortable than the possibility of having rotting teeth in your mouth---that would hurt.

But---it is your mouth, and you are allowed to do what you please---just think it through.

I tried to post this and it said try again later due to high traffic posting. And I thought of something else. I will admit, it is almost all I can stand to endure the tooth polish they use on us when we get our teeth cleaned. I have never had one I like yet. Are there any less unbearable polishes out there. I mean, I find myself nearly gagging for like an hour afterwards. There has to be a better tooth cleaning polish for those of us that are autistic. Please let me know because I will buy some and give it to my dentist before I go in.

Oh, I must confess something. Please don't tell my dentist, but I don't floss.

I hate going to the dentist because I always end up with a million cavities even though I brush my teeth. The problem is that I don't brush them often enough because the toothpaste burns my mouth for some reason. Especially under my tongue. I want to brush it more but I hate the burning sensation that I get. Maybe I just have to get a different toothpaste. My teeth has always been bad because I grind them.

Hi FireBird, I used to use a type of Crest toothpaste---anti tarter I think---that would make the inside of my mouth very sore. I switched to another type of Crest called Pro Health. I have had no trouble with it. I'm not saying it would work for you, but there has to be some toothpaste out there that would agree with you. But the Pro Health has so far worked great for me. Good luck.
