I think my favorite version of A Christmas Carol is the 1970 musical Scrooge, with Albert Finney. I think that version has the best portrayals of the different spirits and I like the fact that the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come actually sends Scrooge to hell and he gets to see what it will be like working as Lucifer's clerk.

The Patrick Stewart version is good too, he's probably my favorite Scrooge. However, I hate, I hate, I hate the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in that version. It reminds me of a giant Jawa. I also don't like the part at the end, where Scrooge sees the boy and asks him to bring the prized goose. Patrick Stewart's Scrooge still seems miserly, like he has to force himself to offer extra money to the boy. I like the versions better where Scrooge is all giddy and excited at that point.

"Merry Christmas son."
"You brought Franky a present? Is it a train-set?"
"No. It's 5 pounds of veal."
"But daddy I asked Santa for a Choo-choo."
"Well go out and get a job and buy a Choo-choo. All day long I hear people complain. My back hurts, my feet aches, I'm only FOUR!"

:D

Mine is probably "It's A Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart playing George Bailey, coincidentally my favorite character

"Dear George,

Remember that NO man is a failure who has friends!"

I've always drawn a great deal of comfort from that ^_^

My favorite Christmas character has to be none other than Clark W. Griswald from Christmas Vacation.

It always seemed fake when Scrooge would be a completely different person after one night. I think Patrick Stewart's Scrooge is more realistic. People do things out of habit, and it takes a bit of effort to change those habits. The ending shows Scrooge going through that process, and it adds a bit of realism to the story.
