Is there a common tendency for AS kids to follow the lead of their friends in banter and practical jokes, without knowing how to go about it right and where to draw the line, thereby going too far and antagonizing everyone?

I seem to remember that happening with me a lot throughout my youth. I was wondering if it's a common occurance among AS'ers.

Nutterbug, I am having trouble creating jokes of my own. As someone pointed out last night that I had a very weak punchline and wrote more of a story. However, I was trying to create a joke about someone's subconscience personality. In addition, I created a world and three characters that were based off Dr. Freud's theories. In response though, I got no laughs and was told that my so-called joke was not as joke at all.

there are some jokes that should not be told because the monkeys start to shriek and become socially injured and disgruntled.

here is one. i am sure everyone has heard it, but i am told it is in very ill taste.

Q: how you you get a nun pregnant?
A: you dress her up as an altar boy.

that is universally offensive to people.
but it is a joke that is mildly amusing to me so it is one that i remember.

i just like the wit and laugh at that, rather than the concept.

when i was in indonesia, there was a man who said he could write my name on a grain of rice ! !!..............for only $10.

so i went and bought 5 kilograms of rice, and i had him sign every grain with my name.

now there is no question as to who's rice it at my place.

I sometimes tend to go too far too. I have to watch and consider what I'm about to say, or else people get perhaps insulted. I don't know whether this is an aspie thing.

i can not really care what effects my social ineptitude has on people.
it is not against the law for me to interpret things inaccurately.

i will see the world how my mind pleases to see it, and i know i am breaking no laws because no one else suffers from it.

i just be my native oblivious self always, and the world can not encroach on me and hurt me because i have done nothing wrong except for to misunderstand, and i was born to misunderstand.

That has been my experience.

"Born to misunderstand" is a cop-out, I think.

"born without the apparatus to understand the things that come naturally to NT people".
that is what i meant and it is not a cop out because i can not help how i am.

but i am off to bed now so nighty night.

quadruplegics are not "cop outs" when they do not register to race in able bodied marathons.

Shooting your mouth off will get you in trouble.

This is probably why so many Aspies are bullied.

So you mean our choices are to keep quiet and be boring, or open our mouths and be annoying?

That sounds about right. I've heard more than enough crying and whinging about bullies on this board. You don't have to be boring-- just don't be annoying.

If you're THAT bad then yeah.

But that's how it is with everyone. Some people just shouldn't talk at all. Gossipers for instance.
